Have my section booked, having steroids before for his lungs. How were your babies that were born via section at that gestation? X

DS was born via emergency c-section at 37wks exactly. He was 5lb 11. They had an incubator and extra staff waiting but he didn't need it. Good luck! x

My DS was born at 36+6 and DD at 37+6. Both treated as full term (which they were), no steroids, no special treatment. They were 6 13 and 7 12 and they didn't have anything on standby for them due to prematurity. I went home the next day following a minimum one night stay.

Cannyhandleit · 11/06/2020 16:34

I had a section at 38w due to gd and baby measuring big. They waited until bang on 38w so I didn't need steroids. He was absolutely fine, no issues at all and we were home the next afternoon!

mistletoeprickles · 11/06/2020 16:36

My DS was born at 38 exactly. He was fine, he weighted over 7lb and we were home the next day.
I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and this one will be 38 week section too.

CoronaBaby · 11/06/2020 16:36

I had DD at 36 +5 by EMCS and she needed a bit of help. Initially she was fine but then started grunting and had an issue with her breathing. She was 6 pound exactly, had a 3 day stay in the NICU but has had no issues since!

RenegadeMrs · 11/06/2020 16:37

I had a baby via c section at 36 +1. Had had steroids. She was 6' 10 oz and absolutly fine apart from a bit of jaundice (common in early babies). No breathing difficulties and stayed with me for the entire hospital stay apart from a blood test that I couldn't attend as I still had a catheter in.

At 37 +5 you'll be considered full term and i'm sure baby will be fine. Good luck!

Had baby at 37 and 5 by emergency section and no steroids, absolutely fine no extra help or treatment needed ! Good luck x

Marmite27 · 11/06/2020 21:56

Mine was born at 35 weeks, due to feotal anemia.

I had 2 steroid injections, one at 11am and one at 9pm the day before. She was born just after 4pm.

She had to have a blood transfusion, and had severe jaundice, but these were down to the anemia.

She was 2oz lighter than her 38 week sibling.

Wolfgirrl · 11/06/2020 22:01

I didn't have a c section but was induced and baby born at 36+5. Just needed the UV lamp for jaundice. No other problems, she weighed 6lb5.

Wolfgirrl · 11/06/2020 22:01

*36+6

tough2019 · 11/06/2020 22:07

Had ds at 37 +5 too via a planned c-section. I had to stay in hospital 2 days prior to the section when they gave me steroids for this lungs, as I was 40 when I had him and had gestational diabetes..
he's sugars were low so had to give him 2 rounds of formula to increase his sugar levels, and they did increase.. no other problems and he's now a healthy, happy 3 year old !
Good luck OP

When my DS was born ten years ago 37 weeks was considered full term. It was almost like a marker to say your baby could now safely be born. Believe that’s changed now because they no longer think the lungs are ready until 39 weeks but I know a couple of babies who were born at 37 weeks and they were completely fine.

crosser62 · 12/06/2020 06:08

C section at 36 & 37 weeks with both of mine, steroids prior.
Both 5lb babies.
Both absolutely fine.
Breast fed straight away, slept, screamed, slept, pooped...repeat.
Home within 24 hours with my second.
Gained weight quickly, thrived.
No problem.

crosser62 · 12/06/2020 06:10

Sorry meant to add mine came early due to pre eclampsia.

Pinksun12 · 12/06/2020 06:11

37+5 planned c section, got steroids at 33 weeks.
3 day stay in NICU but no issues since

Robs20 · 12/06/2020 06:13

I had a c section at 36+6 a few weeks ago. No steroids and we spent 5 nights in hospital.

Twin 1 spent a couple of days in nicu. He was grunting and hadn't shifted the mucous of his lungs properly, he also struggled to latch on/ stay awake long enough to feed so we had quite an intense feeding plan. Both twins had jaundice but didn’t require light treatment. They are now 7 weeks old and doing really well.

THNG5 · 12/06/2020 06:14

I had a c section at 36+6 due to the sonographer detecting vasa previa at a scan the day before. I had 2 shots of steroids before the birth. No issues at all. 7 and half pounds.

crosser62 · 12/06/2020 06:17

And if you want a real glimpse into the future..my 36 week c section steroid prepared, pre eclampsia, 5lb baby is now a 5ft 7 17 year old eating me out of house & home with a full time fantastic job!

Phillipa12 · 12/06/2020 06:19

Dc4 was a section at 38w due to large size and my mental health (dc2 died suddenly 10 days after dc3 was born). I had steroids and he weighed 11.6lbs, no gestational diabetes and we were home 36 hrs later.

Pommes · 12/06/2020 06:24

Preeclampsia.
Two steroid injections.
Delivery at 37+2.
Paediatrician only theatre wasn't needed.
Baby well but needed lamps for jaundice.
Jaundice was prolonged but cleared itself.
Born on the Monday, discharged Thursday.

Good luck OP!

NerrSnerr · 12/06/2020 07:39

My little boy was born at 37w1 and was 6lbs2 and he was fit and healthy.

Bubbletrouble43 · 12/06/2020 07:48

Dts born by c section at 37 + 1, both over 6lb, no issues whatsoever, both scored 10/10 on apgar tests, higher than their elder over due 40+ 2 sister. ( disclaimer : not sure of what apgar scores actually mean) in short, no worries!

user1471428628 · 12/06/2020 08:04

I had mine at 37+1. Steroids when I went into labour at we knew it would be a section. Neonatal team were there but not needed. She was a little smaller, sleepier and slower to feed than my 40+ weeks DS but that could just be personality - she’s still more laid back. And we had to stay in a few extra days for jaundice which is apparently quite common among the earlier but not properly prem babies.
