Hi everyone,

This is a weird one but bear with me... I have a cat who's 8kg (Siberian, they're meant to be big haha) and he likes to lay on my tummy when I'm laying on the bed. I was just laying down and he settled on me but something made him jump and he shot off me, using my tummy as a springboard and I'm worried that the force of 8kg onto my tummy could do some damage? I'm only 5 weeks.

Sorry for the weird question, second pregnancy (first was a MC at the beginning of the year) and worried! How much can the tummy take?

I wouldn’t have thought so, I remember my 3 year old treading all over me when I was pregnant and all the way through my pregnancy. They’re pretty cushioned and hidden away especially in the early stages.

The baby is well protected in there so try not to worry. I know someone who had a big farm gate slam shut against her tummy in early pregnancy. Their DC is now 13.
Congratulations!

Unlikely, they press down pretty hard when scanning and that’s fine!

CleverQuacks · 11/06/2020 16:29

At 5 weeks your baby is right down in your pelvis with all your organs around it to cushion it. It’s very well protected.

Thank you everyone for the reassurance, I'm so grateful! I am feeling some cramping but also had that last night so hopefully it's all normal. Just so worried as it's effectively a kettle bell bouncing off my belly!! I've been so good with not letting him on recently but caved in earlier, so hope I don't live to regret that decision

Don’t worry, your baby is well protected!

I’ve felt a lot calmer about this since my 12 week scan - they aren’t shy about pressing down pretty firmly at that!

Nope, baby is behind your pelvic bone at this point in the pregnancy. Doesn’t normally rise above the pelvic bone until about ten weeks xx

My cat is 5kg and has jumped on my belly a lot and no problems.

Thank you all, I feel so much better since reading your replies! xxx
