Incompetent cervix cerclage

Hi guys
I’m 13 weeks and 5 days pregnant and had my cerclage placed 2 weeks ago. I was fine until last night when I started to bleed a bit, just pinkish and not an alarming colour either. I phoned the hospital and was told because of the covid situation I can’t come in for a reassurance scan. Please help what can I do?

Thanks

Plus I’ve had 3 recurrent miscarriages before too so I could actually cry and this pregnancy now- the 4th one is my first cerclage placement

Keeks, I'm feeling your anxiety. I'm so sorry you're going through this I truly am. What about your midwife is she available to speak to. It's not acceptable to ignore you in this way. I had two children with the help of the stitch now 11 and 8, if that is any comfort to you. I remember a time of worry like it was yesterday. My midwife was beyond useless, in hindsight I should have complained. Try and rest, lie down anything that might help you relax.

Hi OP I currently have a stitch too and I have been told that any concerns, pains, bleeding etc to call EPU before 22 weeks pregnant and then MFAU from 22 weeks. I have had to do this twice so far and I have been allowed to attend hospital and be monitored.

When you rang the hospital which dept did you speak to? Did you explain about your stitch ?

Personally I think you need to ring back and demand to be seen as this bleeding needs to be checked out asap

firsttimemama6 · 11/06/2020 14:54

Hi Keeks, I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry - I had a stitch and then had a little pinkish blood a few days later which totally panicked me. I got checked and told it was just my cervix being agitated but everything was fine. I'm now 40+1. Stitch came out 3 weeks ago but baby is too comfy to come out SmileI really hope you get the same outcome.

Sorry to jump on this thread but when do they normally do the stich? I’ve only been given a scan to measure the length of the cervix at 21 weeks!..

Haven’t had any issues and I’m 19 weeks but just wondering when most hospitals do it?

firsttimemama6 · 11/06/2020 15:13

Lucky me I had one as an emergency as I'd had precancerous cells removed so they were keeping an eye on my cervix with fortnightly scans and noticed it had shortened at 17 weeks. But think they are normally done before then if there is a known problem.

Keeksbeeks · 11/06/2020 15:51

I'm strictly consultant based guys so I don't even have a clue about my midwife at allConfusedI managed to email the hospital and got an appointment and I'm sitting at the hospital right now. My husband complained because of the neglect during my 3rd miscarriage so they already agreed to do my stitch at 10 weeks, if you do want to have it done you should speak to your doctor and ask him for a referral. Still waiting and the bleeding has lessened a bit but I'm just worried it will start up again 😭wish me luck

@firsttimemama6 - seeing your comment has reassured me a bit - I have a scan to check cervix length booked in for 16 weeks, for the same reason (LEETZ for cell changes). Was panicking from this that that was too late, but perhaps 16 weeks will be ok then? I'm 11 atm.

@Keeksbeeks - I have my fingers crossed for you x

JSLACEFAMILY · 11/06/2020 16:39

@Luckyme30 I had mine put in at 15 weeks as they checked my cervix at 14 weeks as I have had a lletz procedure and my cervix was already short. Depending on your hospital trust they can be put in up to 24 weeks I think but will start monitoring cervix length first.

@firsttimemama6 glad your procedure went well and baby is still snug. Can I ask, did it hurt when they took your stitch out 🙈

JSLACEFAMILY · 11/06/2020 16:42

@Keeksbeeks glad you managed to get ana appointment to see someone. Hope all is well x

firsttimemama6 · 11/06/2020 16:43

JSLACEFAMILY I'm not going to lie I found it painful, but I have a low pain threshold and I know others have said it's just a bit uncomfortable so it might have just been me Grin. Plus they can give you gas and air and/or a local anaesthetic injection (I ended up having both). And it's over with quickly. Good luck!

JSLACEFAMILY · 11/06/2020 17:03

@firsttimemama6 Thanks for the info. My consultant said it shouldn't be anymore uncomfortable than a smear but I can have pain relief if needed. I'm only 25 weeks so still a way off having it removed.

Hope your little one arrives soon xx

Keeksbeeks · 11/06/2020 17:04

Okay so baby is okay and my cervix is closed, but the doctor said that if I’m bleeding heavy it will most likely be a miscarriage but if it goes away then it’s nothing to worry about, she goes the blood can sometimes come from the womb, but I have the shittiest luck so my mind does tend to wander and cling to the bad side 😓 I actually think the best thing I can do right now is rest so the bleeding doesn't worsen, thank you guys for all the support xxx

@Keeksbeeks Glad you got seen and everything is looking ok for now. Go and get yourself comfy in bed and rest of you can. Fingers crossed everything calms down for you. X
