TENS Machine for labour

Hiya,

My partner bought me a TENS machine today the Babycare ElleTENS. Has anyone used it and if so did you find it effective during labour? I'm not great with pain and am very scared about going into labour which is why he bought it for me.

I've read so many good reviews about it, but dont really know if the reviews are genuine or not! X

I have that exact one yes. It was great. Got me through the first 36hours of labour until transition. Saved a lot of pain (I tried a contraction without it) and yes made a big difference. I would say it cuts off the ends of the contractions so the pain is less intense and shorter.

I would recommend putting it on as soon as contractions start to get even mildly uncomfortable as it takes a while for your body to build up the endorphins. The trigger button is great as you actually have a bit of control.

@Iamnotacerealkiller oooh that makes me feel a bit better thank you!

Yes, I found it great. Paracetamol, my TENS machine and a hot water bottle honestly made a world of difference to labour, I would highly recommend. I walked around the supermarket with mine on it was such a help.

Yes, I had that exact one and it was fantastic (I too tried a contraction without it and couldn't get it back on fast enough!). As a PP said, get in on nice and early and you can increase the levels as your pain increases. Good luck!

Yes definitely helps, I managed to get quite far along with one. As PP have said, put it on fairly early as it takes time to get working properly. Pressing the button gives you something to focus on during the contractions as well.

Was an absolute lifesaver. Just make sure you try it. I went about 6 hours without using it because I didn't want anything touching me. Finally put it on and the relief was immense!

Personally I loved it. It's not for everyone and worth practising a few times near your due date to become fmaikiat with the sensation (I used to use those faddy ab belts years ago so was already used to the feeling!) I used mine all through the first stage and it really helped me, that and a hot water bottle and then gas and air later on were all I used (and I'm a complete wuss when it comes to pain!!)

I used one a few years ago with my second child and I wish I knew about it with my first. I put it on as soon as I felt a contraction and built it up as I progressed. I walked throughout my labour and managed to use no other pain relief. Need to add I was asking (screaming) for every kind of pain relief in the end but was to near the end by then Wink

I'm a FTM so no experience of using one but I posted something similar on the childbirth forum and got lots of positive responses there too, thought you might like to know.
