Hey,

I have re located last year to East London. My current hospital is Whipps cross.

My care so far has been rubbish and all midwifes are very ignorant and rude. New to this area all friends have had babies in hospitals near my home town.

I have had several problems during pregnancy already and was deemed as high risk. Midwifes seem rude and take over 5 weeks to get back to queries ! So concerning and makes me not want to give birth here. Looking at google reviews it looks pretty bad!

Has anyone had experience with this hospital? Or are currently with them? Any other hospital recommendations for this area?

Thanks

I had the choice between two for my first, halfway between whipps and homerton. I had friends give birth at both.

I chose homerton, and closer to there now I'm pregnant with my second. Care has been good, usual minor issues, but have heard a lot more complaints from those who were at whipps.

Would it be practical for you to get to homerton or another hospital (depending where you are) when in labour?

I had a baby at Whipps two years ago and am having my second there in October. I know quite a few people that have had babies there, and on the whole have had good experiences. They are going through a rebuild of the maternity unit, new one due to open August I think, so it is a bit all over the place. I had a great experience there.

My sister gave birth at Hommerton earlier this year, had a good experience there too, I've heard good things. But my husband worked there recently and I felt uncomfortable thinking he may know the midwifes. He's worked at Whipps too, and speaks highly of the maternity staff there too.

Hello,

I gave birth at Whipps 2.5 years ago, & will have my second there in October (night see you there @milney25 😁)
I find their antenatal organisation really awful, but I found the labour ward staff & care amazing. I was so well looked after, & they really made my birth experience as lovely as it could be. I really did find the staff amazing when I gave birth. Can give more details if you need. Postnatal was a bit crap but I think that’s similar in lots of places.

If you’re high risk are you consultant led? I have a consultant due to previous traumatic birth & being 40, so far she seems very good, although I’ve only had one phone meeting.

I’ve had local friends use Homerton, UCH & even North Middlesex, so there are other options if you’re very unhappy. Good luck!

I had bad experiences with antenatal care at Whipps in both pregnancies.

The first was just due to their rubbish admin. The second was much more serious although fortunately had a good outcome.

I switched to Homerton both times and although it's not perfect, overall I found it better than Whipps.

I think I may just have been unlucky with Whipps, I do know people who have good experiences there (on the medical side of things at least...nobody seems to have a good word to say about the admin!)

I do hear very good things about North Middlesex, but I have no experience and to be honest you are likely to hear good and bad things about every hospital. I'd go with your gut instinct and if you're not happy, look at switching. It's actually really easy to do.

I gave birth at Royal London. Excellent care during the birth - I can't fault the midwives and doctors who looked after us (difficult labour).
But the postnatal ward was utter hell.

I gave birth at Whipps (5 years ago), antenatal care was OK, midwifes on the ward were great.

I was just going to add that the Homerton postnatal ward was awful. Unfortunately I only ever hear negative things about postnatal wards though... Sad

Hi, I don't want to put you off at all but I do want to be completely honest about my experience.
I gave birth in Homerton hospital in September 2015. When I first arrived I went to the delivery suite and the staff were nice enough (was only sat there waiting an hour or so). Then I went to the birth centre where I gave birth. Both the midwife and the student midwife were two of the nicest people I've ever met. Literally could not have been nicer to us. I loved them both.
The postnatal ward was awful and I didn't like the staff too much. Unfortunately my son was not well when he was born and had to spend 12 days in NICU. The doctors were okay. A few of the nurses were nice but mostly I found them horrible and very judgemental. And we had many issues, so much so I complained to PALS about the experience after.
Overall it wasn't completely awful, and I'd recommend the birth centre to anyone. But I hated the rest.
