Dad has a PE (blood clot on lung) so I need to let midwife know?

Just after a bit of advice,

We've had the week from hell after my dad was rushed into hospital with chest pains and trouble breathing. Long story short he has been diagnosed with a large saddle pulmonary embolism which has resulted from a DVT in his leg- he's now being treated with blood thinning injections.

I'm sure I remembered the midwife asking at my booking appointment on the list of 'have you or your family had' and blood clots were on there, and just checked my green notes. Do I now need to let my midwife know about my dad as this has changed (it was obviously previously a no) I'm not sure if it makes me any more at risk?

Thanks!

I should add I'm 32 + 2 weeks and already under consultant led care after developing obstetric cholestatis.

Yes, let them know. By itself it won’t make you high enough risk to need heparin but if you have other risk factors such as raised bmi, age, etc then depending how many ticks you get it could.

More likely to be a potential added issue postnatal has in labour you have the potential to get a few more ticks......long labours, high instrumental delivery, etc. And again something like that combined with family history could make a difference to needing drugs.

If you look here at appendix 3. www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/guidelines/gtg-37a.pdf

It tells you the scoring system.

Sorry youre going through this with your dad OP, hope he makes a strong and fast recovery.

When do you have your next consultant appointment? If it's in the next couple of weeks then I'd just mention it then.
Same with the midwife, just mention it at your next appt. The booking in questionnaire is just to decide if there are any issues which require you to see a consultant through your pregnancy and you're doing this already.

Let them know. My Dad has had two PEs and they monitored me a little closer due to it. Especially after my births. They wanted to make sure I didn't have any circulation issues. All way fine and my Dad is on well managed medication to prevent another one.
I hope you're ok and that your Dad is making good progress

Yes mention it but it won't be an issue I'm sure. My sister had a DVT years ago and I mentioned it at my booking in appointment for my first pregnancy and as a result I had some blood tests - turns out I have factor v Leiden and some other blood clotting mutation and had to inject myself daily with blood thinners for the remainder of my pregnancy and from the beginning with this pregnancy. It wouldn't have been flagged up if my sister hadn't had it.
