Can anybody please help me I am feeling so down with this

I was diagnosed with UC a little over a week ago, I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I have been prescribed 40mg of Prednisolone tablets to take everyday gradually dropping 1 5mg every 5 days. I really want to know if anybody else had this and how long it took for it to work?

I take them in the morning which prevents me from running to the toilet for most of the day but by evening/night time I am still going every couple of hours.

The doctor told me they can take up to 4 weeks to work but it still doesn’t seem right to be going to the loo up to 20 times within a 24 hour period?!

Please can anybody shed some light of their experience on this it is so draining now :(

Sorry your going through this. Have you been given an IBD nurse (inflammatory bowel disease)?
We have a couple in our trust and patients find them very helpful.
As you are newly diagnosed it would be really helpful for you x

Sorry you are going through this, especially as you are pregnant.

I have UC and have suffered for about 6 years. I have been on pred before and it usually kicks in within a few weeks. Have they given you anything else to go along side it?

If they havent already make sure to get some calcium tablets and omeprazole from them. Steroids are harsh on bones and teeth and omeprazole will keep heartburn and gastro irritation at bay.

Definitely take them in the morning, they can make you really hyper and you will struggle so sleep if you take them later. Please taper down as they say and dont be tempted to just stop them even if you are feeling better.

As the other poster said see of your hospital has an IBD nurse, they are great.

Theres a really good support book on facebook called Chron's and Colitis UK Forum which is a private group and everyone is really helpful if you have any questions.

Try and eat plain beige food and cut out fibre, nuts and sugar. I find they make me go to the toilet more often so may help reduce your trips. At my worst I was going around 40 times a day, keep your phone charged for toilet entertainment.

Sorry, long reply but I know how daunting it is. Happy to help with any questions you have.
