Hi

Please can someone advise where has a maternity section in stores? i'm ready now to start buying some clothing i feel and the shops are due to open and i'd rather go and actually see what i'm buying and be able to return and replace easily.

if not, where do you shop online?

Thanks

I live in outside London and most shops don’t have maternity sections. I had to go to Oxford Street to find anything . At that point I was feeling so discouraged . I did nearly all my maternity shopping online . I go through Seraphine, Gap and ASOS . I’m the type that goes all out and buys like £500+ worth of clothes, tries everything on , picks my favourites and returns the rest . I honestly find that the most stress free way to shop .

I spent a day going around what felt like 1000 shops and the only store with maternity inside I could find was H&M (not even next!!!) unless there's a JoJo Maman Bebe near you!

I also found H&M came up pretty small on sizing and don't see why people rave about their jeans so much.

I really like Dorothy Perkins and Peacocks stuff - very reasonably priced and at 34 weeks I'm still buying the same size as I did at 20 weeks and pre preg.

They’re very hit and miss. A lot of maternity ranges are online only. You might get lucky with H&M and new look xx

Thanks. I've been on Asda, looks reasonably priced in comparison to H&M.
We have a George only store near us so i might try there once it opens, H&M is right by it.
Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and try with ASOS.
Never actually heard of JoJo, just done a search there is one 50 miles away. So that might be a nice place to go have a look around (might as well 'pop' to IKEA too while i'm that wayWink)

I'd recommend looking on eBay or fb marketplace for second hand stuff too. It feels wasteful to me to spend too much on clothes that will only be worn for a few months... especially right now with how little socialising we're doing.

pinklashes98 · 09/06/2020 15:55

Hiya, not sure if you have a Matalan store nearby? I bought some maternity clothes from there which were priced well and comfortable. I would definitely recommend the maternity leggings.

bogoblin · 09/06/2020 18:31

I've got some leggings and t-shirts from ASOS I'm quite happy with, they do multipacks for a reasonable price and everything has washed well

Quackersandcheese3 · 09/06/2020 18:41

George , tu , h and m or new look is where I got mine from .

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 09/06/2020 18:41

I was really disappointed when I was pregnant how few stores have sections - couldn't really find any! I love Jojo so definitely go there if you can get there, otherwise all my stuff was online. Take care not to order too big - I found everything came up massive. Seraphine is a nice brand for a few bits (but very pricey). I lived in Jojo stuff. It's worth checking whether stuff is just maternity or maternity and nursing if you're planning on breastfeeding. I found it quite useful having a few dresses and tops with hidden access!

Pandapotato · 09/06/2020 18:44

Not many shops have maternity clothes in store. I got all of my last maternity wardrobe from them. They have large selections and excellent returns policies.
Also e-bay. Most stuff hasn’t been worn for that long so is in great condition.

WeeScottishWife · 09/06/2020 19:41

I went round Westfield in London and was really surprised and disappointed that places didn't have maternity sections. I'm sure I've seen maternity stuff in department stores in the past but now I actually would have shopped those sections, there was nothing there!

Did get to a Jojo Maman Bebe though, and I recommend their stuff; I've got two dresses and a pair of shorts, and my mum gave me a tankini from there too - looks like it'll be post-baby before I get to wear it at this rate though.

Anaesthetist83 · 09/06/2020 19:42

I’ve found New Look to be the best

Shefliesonherownwings · 09/06/2020 20:16

H&M is the only place I've found with in store maternity clothes. Some of their stuff is ok and as I'm short I quite like their Jean's but I highly rate DP for their maternity wear though you'd have to get it online.

Temple29 · 09/06/2020 20:23

H&M is good for a few basics like t-shirts etc. I’m pregnant with my second baby and so far have only bought summer dresses one size up from H&M and think they’ll last until the end (currently 27 weeks).

New look online is good too, better selection than in store.

AnnaSW1 · 09/06/2020 20:28

They have hardly anything in store now. Gap is now all online. Top shop has some in store as does Debenhams and New Look.

AnnaSW1 · 09/06/2020 20:28

Oh and H&M

AnnaSW1 · 09/06/2020 20:30

Even though it's online Gap is the best in my opinion. Amazing maternity jeans that look and feel like normal ones.

yellowgecko · 09/06/2020 21:13

If you're planning to breastfeed buy nursing clothes as they will last you longer than just maternity wear

Gerdticker · 09/06/2020 21:38

I bought lots of George stuff in my first pregnancy but it didn’t last, everything ripped or shrunk, and buttons fell off etc!

Jojo quality is generally great, and you can either keep the clothes for the next baby, or even sell them on eBay/Facebook!

I guess what I’m saying is some of the cheap stuff turns out to be a false economy, and it might be better to invest in the best quality you can afford x

USER18888 · 15/06/2020 13:13

Thanks everyone for helping with this.
I've ordered some bits from ASOS and got some normal leggings that come up quite high so they are ok for now.
Thanks for recommendations on the breastfeeding maternity clothes, wouldn't have thought of that! Blush

I've been buying quite a bit off ebay, favourite search is for jojo, love their stuff and seems good quality. Have got quite a few bargains both new and used. Also got some items online from gap in sale.
