Hi everyone,

First time pregnancy, I am only 7 weeks, felt nauseous last week but it was manageable, but the last four days I have been waking up then being sick. Yesterday I was sick four times and feeling extremely nauseous throughout the day.

I rang the doctors and they got me in for an appointment in the afternoon, I was prescribed some anti-sickness medication called Cyclizine. I took one that afternoon and continued to feel nauseous until I had a two hour nap.

This morning I have woken up feeling sick again, taken a pill forced myself not to be sick for an hour but couldn’t wait any longer and had to be sick. Then twenty minutes later I was sick again.

I can’t even go to work because I can’t stop being sick, I feel so so down. Please can someone help me? Please can you tell me if you experienced this? I feel so alone

Get yourself on the hyperemesis thread run by LucindaE

It's miserable, those who haven't had it don't understand and end up making you feel worse.

You might need different medication. I tried two types before I found one that worked for me. Please speak to your GP again.

LakeTittyHaHa · 09/06/2020 08:37

And I hope you feel better soon

Superscientist · 09/06/2020 08:44

Speak to your gp about signing you off and a different anti nausea medication.

I found the cyclizine only helped if I took it before even lifting my head off the pillow. If it's not working for you there are other options.

Don't fret too much about eating and drinking, try little bits when you can. Mix things up, I couldn't drink water it made me sick but sipping fizzy drinks wasn't too bad once the nausea wasnt awful. I found fruit easier than dry things like crackers which were I threw up immediately

Hey, this is/was me! Now 11 weeks and got something from the doctors last week that dissolved between my gum and lip, sorry if this is graphic but I can still be sick while it in but then it stays there and does eventually help!! Much better than taking a tablet that you’re likely to throw up instantly. Fingers crossed you can find something that works!

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Im so sorry you sound exactly how i was, i as poster above said just eat what you can,try to get fluids in. It sounds like you have hyperemesis, i would keep talking to your gp & midwife. If you are or start to struggle with fluids get some keto sticks (available in pharmacies) to check hydration levels (you pee on them). If your ketones are high call your gp urgently as you will need hospital admission for rehydration (i had 10 😢) I would recomend contacting pregnancy sickness support, they are a brill charity& helped me loads.
Good luck, take care, be kind to yourself, rest xxx

I was on the max dose of cyclizine from 6 to 20 weeks. It never fully stopped the nausea or sickness for me but it did make it slightly more manageable, though the trade in was it made me so exhausted I could barely get up! I had to be signed off work twice for 10 days each time within that time frame as the sickness was so bad.

I wish I had more advice, but all I can say is no matter how awful it is you can get through it. I remember thinking that I would never feel well again and feeling so upset every day with no one around me understanding how ill I was. I promise it will all be worth it but you have all of my sympathy its such a hard time

Yep this is me in pregnancy! A good day was when I was only sick twice! Lots of rest, get signed off so you don't need to worry about work at all and sip water. In my first pregnancy I had HG and nothing helped except childbirth; it was a case of sipping water all day to make sure I didn't dehydrate. My second pregnancy wasn't as bad and I found making sure I ate regularly helped - just a cracker or something plain - as hunger made me feel just as awful as eating too much. You can try things like travel sickness bands, ginger etc. but honestly none of that stuff worked for me. An ice cold glass of full fat pepsi used to go down a treat though! Also if the meds aren't working, keep going back. I didn't push nearly enough for medication the first time round and I should have done.

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 09/06/2020 15:58

@RaeBeam I didn’t have it as bad as you but I did have terrible all day nausea. My advice would be forget about work, get signed off and as others have said ask for different medication. I struggled on taking odd sick days here and there and in hindsight I wish I’d just taken a chunk of time of until I felt properly better. I definitely think stress and tired made it all worse. Don’t suffer in silence, phone GP again or maternity triage. Try to keep hydrated x

I experienced this with my first pregnancy. I was sick multiple times daily with constant nausea for the first 16 weeks and then it eased a bit and finally went away completely at about 18 weeks iirc.

It’s horrible and I fully empathise/sympathise.
