21 weeks and movement stopped

Hi

I've been feeling regular movement in the afternoon/evening for a few weeks now but for the last 2 days it's not been as noticeable. Today I've barely felt anything at all. I don't want to phone the maternity unit and seem worried over nothing if its just because it's early and this is common. Has anyone else had this happen?

You should always call. Better to call and be told its fine than any alternative.

Phone your maternity unit, they won’t tell you off. It’s best to be on the safe side.

Call! They always encourage it if you’re worried.

Don't panic yourself and phone up your midwife/maternity unit to be seen. Everything is more than likely fine but it's best to double check and put your mind at rest. Let us know how you get on 😊

I'm 29 weeks and went to go and get checked last night because I'd hardly felt baby move all day. I have an anterior placenta so it cushions a lot of her movements, thankfully this was why I hadn't felt her as she was tucked in a corner. I was linked up to a monitor and she was moving like crazy but even the midwives couldn't feel anything! The staff were so so lovely and didn't make me feel like a burden at all. I actually apologised for wasting their time and she replied 'we'd rather you came in to get checked every single day and have a healthy baby than you sit at home and ignore something could be wrong.' Honestly, go, it puts your mind at easeSmile

OK it seems the consensus is to call anyway! I will give them a bell and see what they say but as a first time mum I thought they might just think I'm over thinking. Thank you all!

They won't think youre overthinking it, because you're not. There was a HUGE poster in my local maternity unit that said "if something changes, come in, don't wait". Call them now, go straight in for monitoring.

Good luck Thanks

For future reference, drinking a big glass of cold fresh orange juice usually gets baby moving if you're wanting that reassurance day to day. It's not guaranteed though of course, I'm just saying it may help x

OP, It's always worth calling if you're worried, far better to be safe than sorry...you know your body and your body so trust your gut if you think something might be a miss.

For your own peace of mind though, 21 weeks is still very early in terms of movements and patterns. In my Trust, they advise that movements can still be hit and miss up to 24 weeks with quieter periods/days (some women don't feel anything at all till then). Baby is still very small with plenty room to move around at this stage so the slightest change in position can make a massive difference to what, if anything, you are feeling.
Baby should then start to establish a proper pattern from around 28 weeks with movements increasing up to 32 weeks. They tend to then remain at that level up until birth.
My trust advise monitoring your movements from 24 weeks and properly 'counting the kicks' from 28 weeks.

Better to ring and be safe. I'm 23 weeks and last week went in to be checked as she barely moved all day and it was unusual. The next day she was going mental as usual. She's had another quiet day since, I think they're just so tiny that there's plenty of space for them to be floating away from the front of you!

BeHappyAndSmile · 08/06/2020 20:17

Thanks for the responses. I called them and they said it wasn't overly worrying because baby can still tuck away and I was too early for monitoring but to pop up and they'd check heartbeat etc as I'd had some strong cramping yesterday. Just got back and all is good, they told off for saying sorry for wasting their time too so that made me feel better haha.

Never feel like you’re wasting time. I went in three times with reduced movements with my DS. Every time he was fine....but that’s good! That’s the outcome everyone wants. Midwives would much rather you checked than didn’t. One told me “I’d rather check a women a hundred times and tell her everything is ok, than miss the one time that it wasn’t.” If it happens again, call. Every time.
