New job and pregnant!

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant (4weeks, happy accident) I started a new teaching job in April and so haven’t actually been into work yet because of schools being closed! I’m just a bit in shock and confused as to when I need to tell my head. There’s a chance I could be needed in work on the last week of July, but aren’t pregnant women in the shielding category?

Congratulations! The advice is that all pregnant women should stay at home as much as possible, but you can go out & return to work with a risk assessment - mainly centred around PPE, hand washing and social distancing.

Only pregnant women with congenital heart conditions are told to shield.

Pregnant women aren’t in the shielding category, so don’t worry about that! We’re on the ‘mild’ vulnerable list, which says you can go to work if you need to (but work from home if you can), so if you do have to go in it will be fine. I would just try to avoid using public transport if you can.

Congratulations!

Hi, congratulations! No not shielding unless in another clinically vulnerable category. Just need to make sure you take precautions such as social distancing etc. You don't officially have to tell your employer until 25 weeks, but with risk assessments etc needing to be done and adjustments possibly needed to your role it may be better to tell earlier.

@MaverickDanger @zscaler thank you for clarifying!
