Can you undo the damage of take aways?

Hello,

I'm seven weeks pregnant on Saturday and for the last two weeks we've had take aways for tea almost every night due to our oven being bored and in all honesty we've just been lazy! It's mostly been curries.

Ovens coming tomorrow and I've sworn off take aways now (at least every other night, I'm not gonna say no to a treat) but I'm worried I might have hurt the baby :(

Any advice?

Thanks

Oh dear, OP. Get used to it I'm afraid - you can't step out your house as a pregnant woman without someone telling you you'll harm to baby somehow. Pregnant women are somehow everyone's business and you can guarantee whatever she's doing, it's wrong.

My SIL didn't know she was pregnant for 7 months (she's not the smallest of girls and had always had odd periods) she drank and smoked and ate takeaway every weekend. One night her belly moved and her OH said you might want to get that checked out, she left the hospital the next day with a scan photo of her little boy! He's healthy bright and happy. Please don't worry 🙂

(Obviously smoking and drinking is a bad idea!)

Your baby will be fine if you ate nothing but takeaways and chocolate your whole pregnancy. Chill

Bluntness100 · 04/06/2020 18:37

Cmon op. You know there are parts of the World where various types of curry are staple cuisine and the women have babies just fine, right?

Colouringinbook · 04/06/2020 18:39

I could absolutely murder a takeaway curry right now....

YurtleTheTurtle · 04/06/2020 18:41

I lived on ice cubes and hula hoops throughout my HG pregnancy with DD2. A few curries will not hurt you or the baby.

HyacynthBucket · 04/06/2020 18:42

As usual a lot of dietary advice from mumsnetters really horrifies me. What about the baby being "too small" to be affected? Seriously, try and eat nutritious food from now on - including decent oils such as olive (not palm or vegetable or whatever they use in takeaway curry, or trans fats from processed stuff) plenty of vegetables and whole grains (not refined like white rice or bread), and adequate amounts of protein. Eating nourishing food will give the baby the best possible start in life, and will be healthier for you too.

I loved a takeaway when I was pregnant!! You and yours will be fine

Pinkblueberry · 04/06/2020 18:45

Eating takeaway every night for 14 days is bad for anyone, pregnant or not.

Yep. Probably not great for your waistline OP, but your baby won’t care about that. I couldn’t have stomached a takeaway curry at seven weeks, I had horrible nausea and was living off chips and toast at that time. I suppose a curry is at least more nutritious than that!

AuldAlliance · 04/06/2020 18:47

I want to know how you can tell when your oven is bored.

Sparklfairy · 04/06/2020 18:48

Sorry but this I've sworn off take aways now (at least every other night, I'm not gonna say no to a treat) made me Grin

Now I want curry Sad

Blahblahidontcare · 04/06/2020 18:51

I got really drunk the night before and smoked several cigarettes the day I found out I was pregnant. Child alive and well.

Blahblahidontcare · 04/06/2020 18:51

I also drank irn bru every day of my pregnancy, child was not orange.

Islandgrown · 04/06/2020 18:55

I would think the only 'damage ' you've done would be to your waistline & wallet. What am i missing?

ThePurpleMoose · 04/06/2020 19:04

As a number of PP have said, my diet in the first trimester was probably much worse than if I'd had takeaway every night because I was constantly nauseous so are not a lot of a very limited range of foods, with a major aversion to most vegetables. Obviously it's good to try and eat healthily and you might find it makes you feel more energetic, but your takeaway spree won't have done any damage.

MittensTheSerpent · 04/06/2020 19:05

Not meaning to sound harsh, but you'll save yourself a lot of stress going forward by not letting yourself worry about trivial stuff like this.

TheFoz · 04/06/2020 19:29

I am loving that your oven was bored. I am so using that as a reason not to cook dinner this weekend 😂😂

Don’t stress yourself about a few takeaways, you could be doing far far worse.

BadAlice · 04/06/2020 19:42

@HyacynthBucket If you honestly think that a few takeaways is a concern you must live a very sheltered life. Goodness me how privileged we are in the UK that this is even a concern we get to consider!

ScarfLadysBag · 04/06/2020 19:45

I wish I'd had takeaways every night when pregnant. I survived the first trimester solely on ginger nuts.

Cherryrainbow · 04/06/2020 19:48

You'll be fine hun :) I've had a takeaway about once a week since morning sickness stopped! Just be mindful of some ingredients such as seafood/shellfish, some cheeses etc but there's no reason why you can't have takeaway in moderation. as others have said around the world pregnant ladies are having all types of cuisine. You may find with the weather getting hotter you will probably have less anyway and have more colder foods like salads, fruit etc. Enjoy! X

Wecandothis99 · 04/06/2020 19:54

Bless, you sound very young and naive. Honestly don't worry though, no damage can have been done , just make lovely home cooked stuff now

Hatscats · 04/06/2020 20:03

If I didn’t get fat, and I had unlimited money, I’d eat a take away every night Grin
