Reduced Movements

Just wondering if anyone here has been in for reduced movements and what they did at hospital for you when you got there?

I'm about to call triage as my little one hasn't moved today which is really unlike her. Just wondering what to expect from them really?

It depends how many weeks you are. They will either listen into the baby with a Doppler or put a monitor round your tummy which monitors baby’s heart beat for a while.

Spanglebangle · 04/06/2020 14:17

They will probably ask you to drink a sugary drink and lie still for an hour and count the movements you feel before they will see you in person.

Oh sorry I should of said I'm 33+3

They'll put a monitor on you which listens to bsbys heartbeat (straps around the bump) and you get a button to press if you feel any movements.
You'll probably be on that about 30 minutes to an hour.

You can never be too careful. At my hospital they took me to MAU where they just listened for baby's heartbeat and monitored me for an hour, then provided they were happy I was allowed to go home. All relatively straightforward as they encourage anyone with reduced movements to be seen in person.

However....this was all pre-COVID. So it may be different now. Boy you know your body and your baby so if you feel like baby isn't moving as much as usual, definitely call ASAP for your own peace of mind

Mine was the same experience, I went recently at 37 weeks. They’d rather see you than not, even though I felt silly as she started kicking as soon as they put the monitor on me they said I’d done the right thing and to go back straight away if I was worried again.

LusciousV · 04/06/2020 14:24

As @Spanglebangle said, when I called they told me to drink a cold drink/eat a sugary snack and lie on my left side for an hour (no TV or distractions) and pay attention to movements.

If you've already done this and aren't happy with movement you've felt then give them a ring and they'll get you in to monitor baby's movements and heartbeat x

You'll be asked to do a urine sample as well.

Take a book/magazine/charged device. If all's well you'll be on the monitor (ie laid down with two bands around your bump) for 30 minutes. If baby is being quiet it might be longer.

Dehydration is a common reason for reduced movements so take a bottle of water to sip while you're there.

It's a really relaxed check, everyone will be lovely! Most of the time baby will start moving as soon as the monitors are on.

They will put you on a ctg monitor for min 20 mins. They will also check your pulse, bp and urine.
I went in with reduced movements just over 6 weeks ago at 36+3 - babies were fine but my bp was sky high and I was admitted with ore eclampsia. The MAU was very very quiet so I was seen quickly.
I hope your baby is ok, please go in asap.

lovelyjubbly12 · 04/06/2020 14:25

Thank you everyone.

Yeah I've already drank a sugary drink, ate some sweets, had a bath, lay down and focused on bump but I've only felt her move once. I think for my peace of mind it's best to call and head down to see someone otherwise I'll just worry. 💕

If you have tried all that definitely phone.
Iv been in 3 times in 3 weeks and they wanted me in straight away regardless of covid.
Obviously there's a lot of precautions in place to keep everyone safe.
As said above you will be put on monitor with two straps :)

1stmummaSD · 04/06/2020 14:36

I'm sure everything is fine but give them a ring and pop down. I've been twice since COVID. I was there last night. First time I felt like I was wasting their time but they've always been really lovely and assured me that I've done the right thing.
