...and I feel awful. It was the first assessment, which is always bad, but fucking hell, why do they think it's a good idea to just spend 90 mins talking about everything that's awful and scary, with no advice or help and a week to go until the next appointment?!

Somebody remind me that this is going to get better, please?!

They have to know all they can about you and it is also good for you to bring things to the surface, they will still be fresh at your next appointment.

I fail to see what this has to do with pregnancy though.

It isn't necessarily 'good to bring things to the surface'.
It can leave you very vulnerable and afraid.
I've had some poor experiences too.
I wouldn't bother again. Sorry I can't be of reassurance. It can be difficult to find a councillor that you have a rapport with.
I had a fantastic one twenty years ago, but she left the area.
Also psychologists rarely 'give advice'. You might need to talk to someone who gives practical advice, like a CBT practitioner maybe.
I hope that you feel better soonFlowers

Well, it's the perinatal mental health team, so...

I had an assessment with the perinatal MH team at the beginning of my pregnancy, it is difficult but it helps them to get an idea of what sort of support you will need throughout pregnancy etc.

I poured my heart out to them and in the end they couldn’t even offer me any support as in what they deem ‘low risk’..

Hopefully you have better MH support than I have been given!

I had my full assessment with PMHT last week and have been left feeling exactly the same, won't be speaking to anyone again until 16/6 and when asked how I was feeling at the end of the call I was told a prescription was being faxed over to my pharmacy, so their answer was to just Medicate me as I'm high risk. I'd like to say it will get better once proper, regular support is in place but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm trying to look at it as a positive thing being on their radar now so the support is there, this just isn't a nice feeling to have for the next two weeks! X

Thank you, thank you! Although I'm really sorry to hear about so many similar experiences Sad

I already feel better, it was just a bit of a shock coming out. The irony is that I was MUCH worse in my first pregnancy and had to ask again and again for help, then got cut off when their funding ended. This time I was feeling pretty good, but have a history that got me referred and suddenly dredging up the failings of last time left me in a big old mess. Sigh. If only these people were psychic, it would help a lot...

Good luck everybody and thanks again.
