Blankets & bedding

Hi folks,

I've been looking at the NHS advice of things I'll need to have for the baby in the first few weeks, and aside from sheets for the bed it just says 'blankets' for layering. I've seen a couple of mentions on here of cell blankets, and I just wondered in general what kind of blankets people have used? I'm quite possibly overthinking this, but would love to hear from you! Due in late July, if that makes a difference.

I'm due in early July and am a ftm. Planning to use cellular blankets for layering during sleep but if the baby kicks them up over themselves and it makes me nervous, I might switch to sleeping bags.
I've heard that one layer of blanket equals one blanket but if the blanket is folded eg into two, that equals two blankets.
There's so much advice out there and I don't want to waste money without trying things out so figured that cellular blankets would be the most useful upfront as I can use them on baby in buggy and car seat too.

We had cellular blankets but predominantly used sleeping bags for nighttime - there's a minimum weight though so check before using. As dumpling123 says theyrye useful for a layer over the car seat as well when you don't want baby to get too hot.

Cellular blankets are good but I found sleeping bags the best.

I used cellular blankets at the beginning, and tehn used sleeping bags whoch are so much safer and easier.

I still use grobags and my DD is 3 years old.

As someone mentioned most sleeping bags have a minimum weight, my daughter didn't reach that until about 6 weeks. She was born in January, so needed more layers at night, but we swaddled her in a muslin and then used a cellular blanket over the top. We love sleeping bags now though, so would definitely recommend once they're older.

Cellular blankets are sold in most places that sell baby clothes, like supermarkets and m&s.

If you're using blankets just make sure you place your babies feet at the bottom of the cot/moses basket when you put them to sleep and tuck the blanket in firmly, making sure it is no higher than their shoulders. There's some useful fact sheets and things on the lullaby trust too.
