Leg cramps?

Not had this before - cramps up and down the back of my calves. Sudden onset, sometimes one leg sometimes both.

I do a lot of walking but also take care to rest my legs.

Is there anything I should be doing to prevent / ease these cramps and are they totally normal?

I used to get this. I think it's related to mineral deficiency - I started eating more bananas and it went away.

oh, crikey thanks - I wondered why it was happening. I will eat more bananas!

Oh this is horrible, you have my sympathy. Does it happen at night? I found that if I avoid stretching and pointing my toes in the bath or in bed then it doesn't happen. Failing that, grab hold of your foot and flex it towards you and that usually eases it.

This has just started happening to me as well - when it comes on, try and point your toes "upright" towards your knees and take deep breaths. Your instinct is to hold your breath, but the more you breathe, the sooner the extra oxygen will dissipate the lactic acid, and the sooner it will stop hurting

magbesium deficiency, bananas can help but i just take some tablets and drink loads of water.

i found it quite crippling when it happened to me, could hardly walk for a day or two.

Dried apricots work - although I've been eating them today and have been suffering tonight with cramp in my foot

Also is you gently 'waft' your hand onver the affected area left to right then up and down this helps - don't know why but it does - was shown this by my yoga teacher

I had this. And be warned I also had severe cramps for a day or 2 after birth - don't know if they were related. With DD3 I gave birth on the floor. When they tried to get me back on bed for an exam both my calves siezed. It was agony, worse than giving birth. It might be worth priming DH so he can massage them to help you out of them if needed.

My toes and feet cop it the worst, driving along and have to pull over all the time till i can get them to stop, I got told that i needed more salt in my diet not sure if thats good advice but i will try just about anything, i think i will go for the bannanas first sounds like the yummy option...Thanks
