I’m 4 weeks and 3 days pregnant..I know I’m super early but I’ve self referred to my chosen hospital using the form online. So just waiting to hear from the midwife.

I have no idea when this will be..this is my first pregnancy so all so new to me.

I’ve read some older posts where women haven’t been contacted until after 10 weeks etc.

Aren’t you supposed to have certain tests done before you reach the 10 week mark?

I’m just worried these are going to be missed

I had to do the same self referral and I got all my appointments in the post they all came at once right up to 36 weeks, so maybe that will be the same for you your receive your booking in appointment

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Your booking appointment generally happens between 8-10 weeks (mine was at 8). I received my appointment for this the week before.

There are no specific tests that need done at this time, it just a fact finding mission really. You will also have your blood pressure and urine sample checked and you'll have a blood test. However, depending on where you are, they may do your booking appointment over the phone and skip these checks initially due to the covid situation.

The first time sensitive tests are around 12 weeks. If you want the NT test then this must be done between 11-14 weeks so will take place at the same time as your first scan.

It really depends what area you are in. I self referred at around 5+5 and was contacted a week or so later to book in an appointment between 8-10 weeks.

In my area, they are still seeing people face to face but the number of appointments are reduced as they need to thoroughly clean the room etc in between each patient.

My midwife also said they are getting a lot more calls than normal from women who are concerned about coronavirus or have concerns about going j to labour on their own etc, so are much busier than normal.

The first few weeks feel like nothing is happening and you are just sitting around waiting. I would say if you haven’t heard anything by 8 weeks, then follow up with a call, but this is pretty normal from my experience to not hear back immediately.

I didn't hear anything until about 8 weeks when I got a letter for my booking in appt (which was for when I was 9-10 weeks).

The booking in appt is more just questions and answers about your circumstances and medical history so I know a lot of them have been changed to telephone appointments due to covid.

I did have bloods taken at mine but that was back in Jan. They were just standard checks and not time critical so I know a lot of trusts are just doing them at the same time as your first scan now.

The combined screening test needs to be done before 14 weeks and they take bloods for that as well so maybe thats what you're thinking of? That's normally done at the same time as your scan regardless of covid. That blood test is different to the standard checks they do at booking in and repeat at 28 weeks.

Ah fab!
Thank you all for reassuring me.
I’ll just sit tight and wait to hear from them
