Just had a text from my Dr's after having my 28 week appointment saying my levels are low and so I need to start taking iron tablets. Do any of you other ladies take these if so is there anything I need to know /do please? Can this cause any problems?

I had chronically low iron whilst pregnant with DD1. I suffer from low iron anyway but particularly bad in pregnancy. I’ve been taking iron tablets in some form since TTC this pregnancy so I’ve not been too low. I’m always on the bottom end of what’s ok but not too bad for me.

I was prescribed iron tablets in pregnancy and had no side effects at all. One side effect I’ve heard of is funny coloured poo so don’t be alarmed if that happens.

It shouldn't cause any problems but (and I'm really sorry for the tmi) you will notice that you may struggle to go for a poo at first and when you do it will be black, depending on how a dose of iron your doctor gives you!
It then turns grey(ish) then goes back to normal, once your body is used to the higher intake of iron.
I will say try not to strain when you do go to the toilet. The last thing you want is piles too! 😬😬

*That’s meant to say I HAVE chronically low iron, particularly whilst pregnant with DD1.
