Dehydration in pregnancy....should I be concerned?

I know it's normal in pregnancy to need more water...And I drink an absolute tonne of water on a daily basis normally anyway....but I feel like I'm dehydrated still? Anyone else had this? Currently 24 weeks.

I woke up last night at about midnight because I was so hot and thirsty I felt like I couldn't breath, and was breathing really rapidly. I ended up sleeping on the floor for an hour because it was cooler there. My lips are really dry (I'm now constantly putting vaseline on them), the skin round my mouth is really dry....But I'm drinking 8-12 pints of water a day?! Has anyone else experienced this? I dont feel really unwell, but I don't feel very energetic at all 😂

Have a read of this. It talks about excessive thirst in pregnancy. If you are worried or want more advice, you can call the tommys midwife helpline on 08000147800 (open 9-5) x

Ring your midwife, or the midwife unit at your hospital?

Yes I agree you do need to drink a LOT of water in pregnancy especially if it’s hot like it has been. But best be on the safe side, in case they want to test for gestational diabetes?

Definitely speak with your midwife and ask for a GD test if you haven't had one already.
Yes, clearly we need extra water when pregnant and especially with this wonderful warm weather, but you have symptoms that need to be checked with a healthcare professional to rule anything out.
I'm no doctor and I'm not trying to scare you but please do speak to someone ASAP just to put your mind at rest.

I was constantly thirsty in pregnancy I drank 5litres plus a day. I was checked three times for GD. I think I just needed a lot of water! Check with midwife to put your mind at ease but it's probably fine

I had this in my last pregnancy, and also have it this time around but not quite as bad (also 24 weeks). My blood sugars have always looked good so it's not GD.

Even when I'm not pregnant, I need to drink a fair bit of water to feel hydrated, so I guess it just gets amplified in pregnancy.

That said, I'd still get checked out for GD at least once if I were you.

Thanks everyone! Just got back from triage, they think all is fine although my blood pressure is a little low. They've just told me to rest more and that theyll let me know if my bloods show signs of anemia. Baby didnt appreciate having a doppler thrust at him though 🤣 He went a bit crazy 😂
