Tomorrow my fiancé is travelling to a coastal town for business purposes and has invited me to go with him. I obviously said yes as the seaside makes me calmer than anything else in the world, just seeing and hearing the sea makes me happy. I’m 28+6 and perfectly healthy, no risk of preterm birth just carrying a big baby.
It’s around a 2 and a half hour car journey and will be stopping at services on the way (which thankfully are still open) my worry though is that when we get to the coastal town there will be no toilets and nowhere open whilst I wait for him to do his work.
So my question is what would you take with you in the car?

So a five hour round trip. How long are you going to have to occupy yourself for while he's in a meeting?

I'd just take whatever you usually take for a massive car journey. Water, snacks.

I'm not sure it sounds worth it for me.

Out of interest what does your DP do that necessitates a crazy amount of driving that can't be done on the phone or via video call? (Seeing as we're advised again unnecessary travel and being encouraged to WFH)

He has to do a site survey on a housing estate, it’s the first one his had to go out too but it does require it.
And about two hours sitting on the beach whilst he does the survey

@OP I did a 4 hour round trip at the weekend and am 37 weeks today. Next Friday when I'll be 37+4, I'll be doing similar to you - a work trip tied in with a walk on the beach as I'll be near the coast. DH with me both times.

I just made sure I had plenty of water & fruity snacks. But because I'm around 37 weeks I did also take my hospital bag & car seat & notes just incase. You probably don't need to take full hospital bags but I'd say take your notes and a small overnight essentials bag just to air on the side of caution.

Before you ask @Burpalot none of your business really as to why these trips are undertaken - not the point of the post. They are happening because they are.

@whhho thank you for the advice ☺️ Can’t beat a walk on the beach

Enjoy it!

I also sat on a "maternity towel" because it's a company car and I had visions of my waters breaking and having to pay for the car cleaning ! Haha! But I don't think you need to worry about that at your stage.

Hope you have a nice day - a few hours relaxing on the beach sounds lovely .

I live in a coastal town - there are no loos I'm afraid, beach is v busy at weekends and lots of people wandering around asking where to find a toilet. The only one I know of is in a fish and chip shop and I think it is only open to customers. So if you're happy to eat a lot of chips...!

We have a super low infection rate here and it seems that the council is keen that tourists/visitors stay away to keep it low so they won't be opening anything up soon I wouldn't think.

KittyKat2020 · 01/06/2020 11:02

@LoveSunshine01 yes I thought that may be the case and where we’re going isn’t down south or touristy so it’s unlikely anything is open.
May have to take a bucket lol 😂

Shewee and a bottle? 🙂

Burpalot · 01/06/2020 11:20

Op, check a map for the nearest services to where you're going and make sure you have a wee there!

Is there a site office where your DP is working just in case?

KittyKat2020 · 01/06/2020 11:42

@Burpalot no unfortunately no site office. So I’ll be stopping at any available toilets and ensuring I have a change of clothes in case!
