Hospital Bag Packing.

When did you have your hospital bag packed? I'm 27 weeks pregnant, and haven't even thought about it yet. My auntie had hers packed at 30 weeks,my friend had hers packed at 27 weeks. I feel too early to buy nappies, baby wipes etc to put into my bag. I think I'm so unprepared as I still need to buy the travel system, cot, start the nursery, and more. I have a thing about not being too early with things, like an anxiety, but I need to get a move on!😂

Girl get moving you’re in your 3rd trimester now 😅 I’m the same I don’t like to do things too early but I think it’s time to at least do the nursery and buy the travel system 😇😁

SqidgeBum · 01/06/2020 08:41

I didnt pack mine til 35 weeks 😆 27 weeks is still incredibly early. At your point I was looking at buggies (bought one at around 30 weeks) and maybe getting DH to paint the nursery.

lovelyjubbly12 · 01/06/2020 09:16

I've packed mine I'm 33 weeks but I find I keep taking clothes out of to wear and then washing and having to put them back.. I have limited maternity/comfy stretchy clothes and I don't really want to buy loads more since we can't exactly go anywhere 🤣

Bellsx · 01/06/2020 09:25

I'm 29 weeks on Thursday and we have literally only just done the nursery as like you I still feel anxious but I felt things were getting on top of me and I didn't feel organised at all so started to make lists of what needed doing and what I still need to buy and have been able to tick some things off now which has made me feel so much better!

KittyKat2020 · 01/06/2020 09:28

I’m 28 weeks my hospital bag is packed, I’ve got everything ready and brought all my essentials and more. I’m always super organised though lol 😂

Bag is definetly more important than Nursery /Travel cot. They can be done after baby is here if needed.

Even if on your next shop you just start chucking some bits in. No need to go mad but it helps to start chipping away at it.

babynamesarehard · 01/06/2020 09:29

38 weeks, should probably pack mine!!

fedupandlookingforchange · 01/06/2020 09:30

I about 30 weeks and will get mine packed this week. Just in case. I won't put any of the clothes I wear in at the moment but will do toiletries, nappies, wipes, phone charger, baby stuff, pads, big knickers etc

Mammyofasuperbaby · 01/06/2020 09:34

Mine is mostly packed at 29 weeks and will be done by the end of the month. I had my first at 33 weeks and my bag only had a few things in it. I was fine as my partner and mam brought me what I needed bit it can't happen this time so I'm ready for anythinv

babynoname23 · 01/06/2020 09:36

My travel system is taking 12 weeks to come and my nursery furniture will still be another eight weeks and I thought I was being organised. I'm 29 weeks and planning on packing the hospital bag in the next couple of weeks

20viona · 01/06/2020 09:38

I packed mine at 36 weeks. We put the cot
Up the morning I was induced at 37 weeks 😂

Flumo · 01/06/2020 09:40

I packed most of mine by 32 weeks, 36 weeks tomorrow and its finished. We were buying a pack of nappies every weeky shop so we dont have to buy them all in one go.

Mrspeachhh · 01/06/2020 09:50

I think it’s wise to pack as soon as you hit the 3rd trimister. I went in with reduced movement thinking I’d be sent home within an hour. They said they were inducing me that day as I was right, there was no movement. Didn’t have babygrows ready or anything my Dh had to stop at Asda on the way to the hospital to grab packs of baby grows and vests and stuff 🙈 this time il be packing at about 28 weeks xx

mamatobe20 · 01/06/2020 09:52

What is everyone packing in their bag? How many nappies etc?

WalkTheLine99 · 01/06/2020 09:54

With my first I packed my bag at after the 12 weeks scan! I also unpacked and repacked and unpacked and repacked at least once a month 😳

2nd, 3rd, 4th each got a bit later each time.

This time around I’ve only just done it about two weeks ago and I’m 38+1!

Pinkflipflop85 · 01/06/2020 10:17

With dc1 my bag was packed at 26 weeks and regularly checked (no idea why?!).

Dc2 I was packing it while my waters were gushing everywhere!

crazychemist · 01/06/2020 10:34

I had it packed with the stuff I knew I’d need for DD at about 30 weeks, but I didn’t put my stuff in until I was having contractions (38 weeks)! I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that, but early than that I wasn’t sure how big I’d be and what would be comfortable to wear for delivery. First labour can feel like a very long time, so in some ways it was nice having something to do other than just pacing around feeling impatient and wondering whether to call DH to come home (he knew I was having contractions before he went to work, but mild and 15 minutes apart, we decided he should go and teach all his lessons, but that I’d call if they got closer than 5 minutes before he was home.)

fedupandlookingforchange · 01/06/2020 10:55

Pack more than you think you'll need at the moment as visitors are not allowed and last time DH had to bring more baby clothes as DS kept vomiting. Take food as well, I didn't last time and was starving.

SqidgeBum · 01/06/2020 11:14

One thing I always tell couples now when it comes to packing your bag; make DH/DP pack theirs with LOADS of food. I was in labour for 52 hours, 24 of those I was in hospital. Dh packed chocolate bars. That was it. He was a complete wreck by the end. He was starving (and incredibly cranky once the adrenaline wore off. I just sent him home once I was moved to the ward and ordered him to eat and sleep 😆). You say 'he can go to the canteen' but when those contractions are 2 minutes apart you may be begging him to stay. Just make sure he is as prepared as you. This time around my DH will be bringing full pasta dinners in tubs.

loubert89 · 01/06/2020 11:57

I've been chipping away slowly at my hospital bag for the past 3 weeks (I'm currently 33 weeks). I think it'll be another week before it's got everything I need in it and I can pack it all in properly. For now it's all just shoved in.

4amWitchingHour · 01/06/2020 12:11

Similar - I'm 33 weeks and have been adding bits and pieces over the last couple of weeks, and adding things to shopping gradually (nappies, wipes, labour snacks etc), but I won't get my husband to pack it properly til around 36 weeks I don't reckon. Still haven't bought a car seat! I'm taking the 'it'll all work out one way or another' approach :)

Colouringinbook · 01/06/2020 12:20

Probably started it about about 33 weeks and literally put the last thing in it the day before I went into labour at 38 weeks!

PrincessSarene · 01/06/2020 12:27

I packed my bag quite late (I think it was about 35 weeks). But what I did have was a list of what needed to go in - I actually had a few lists: one for labour stuff, one for baby things after and one for me after. The labour stuff was packed in a small bag and the other things in a bigger bag that could stay in the car until needed. I also kept a list of things to be added at the last minute (phone charger, kindle etc.) and I made sure DH knew about it. I also got him to pack the labour bag so he knew where things were when I wanted them.

SqidgeBum · 01/06/2020 12:33

That's very clever @PrincessSarene. I need to get my DH to pack mine this time. Last time I spent a lot of time telling him 'no not that pocket, the other one, no not that one!' Inbetween 1.5 minute contractions while he equally huffed and puffed. You are a smart woman

Cardboard33 · 01/06/2020 13:43

Don't pack your hospital bag yourself, get your birth partner to do it as they will be the ones who are getting you stuff. Obviously be in the same room so you know where stuff is too (particularly important atm as you could be induced and they're not allowed in until you're in active labour) but they need to be the ones packing it. We didn't have a car so took a suitcase and bagged up our stuff into "labour" "post labour" "baby" "food" bags inside it. We put baby clothes in clear plastic bags with size info on the front. I started getting stuff together at about 32 weeks but only properly packed the bag at 36 weeks and then my labour started later that night.

@sqidgebum we bought loads of packet pasta etc where you just had to add boiling water, then ended up only being at the hospital for 2-3 hours before baby was born (I was only in labour for about 7 hrs) meaning we are still eating the food over a year later Grin
