Paddling pool water- reassurance

This might sound ridiculous but I’m quite anxious in this pregnancy (my last one ended in a MC). Im 15 weeks .

On Friday we filled the paddling pool up but the water was cold, It took me a good five minute to fully sit down and I was squealing (water just under belly button). I did the same on Saturday. I’ve since read that you shouldn’t swim in really hot or cold water as it can cause the uterus to contract. I was only sat down in it which was uncomfortable but I warmed up after. Plus it was boiling outside. Will this have caused damage?

We also didn’t change the water the next day, only covered it with a loose sheet. There was quite a few dead flies/bugs in there which I tried to scoop out. My other worry now is that the water could be dirty/infected:( I didn’t feel any water going up inside me, and I also showered straight after.

Please feel free to tell me I’m being ridiculous.
I have been having slight discomfort in my lower uterus area but hoping it’s trapped wind.

Thanks for reading this far

I think you're worrying over nothing... you didn't drink it! If it caused your uterus to contract you would seriously feel that and keep feeling it. Besides, that's getting into genuinely icy water not just room temp haha. With the infection thing, again you'd develop symptoms of vaginal infection/uti and so if you have no symptoms you're good. And if you do get an infection (unlikely) they're very easily treated, I had to go on antibiotics for one in my first trimester, no biggy.

I've never heard that about cold water but the reason not to be in very hot water like a boy tub is because raising your core temp for a prolonged time can affect the fetus. Why don't you just fill a couple of kettles of water to add to it in future?

Hot tub*

Wouldn’t worry at all about this. Hope this pregnancy is uncomplicated and congratulations!

I've heard that you shouldn't go in cold water, but much more than that I've heard of lots of women who continue to do cold water swimming. If it is a huge, sudden shock I can imagine how that could cause your uterus to panic, as it were, but if that had happened I think you'd know by now.

As for the water, I think you're absolutely fine but in future I would change it daily. Maybe boil the kettle and chuck that in to take the chilly edge off as well.

There was another thread the same as this in the last couple of days. Have you posted this recently?

At 29 weeks pregnant I went on my honeymoon to Cornwall. I was in an out of the sea and Penzance Lido in early June. It was not warm! I’m 18 weeks this time and have been paddling in the Emglish channel and the paddling pool. I’m willing to bet that the sea is a lot dirtier than one day old paddling pool water. Although our pool water is about a week old. Husband washed his wetsuit in it so it’s also full of sand, nevermind the leaves and bugs!

If your concern was uterine contractions you would have known about it immediately. And FWIW running gives me Braxton Hicks but I still do it!

I've never heard the cold water thing before. My midwife said if you have a really hot bath you might get dizzy and fall over getting out, so don't have the bath so hot you get dizzy and you're fine.
I did triathlon when I was pregnant with my first and I was swimming in lakes for that. I just did a bit of extra distance to avoid getting kicked!

As well as what PP above said about hot baths making you faint, in early pregnancy, a rise in body core temp has an increased risk of spina bifida (IIRC!) but only really hot water like a hot tub at 40'+ for a long time.

Cold water is fine, and your baby is well protected in there. Even if you did get a urine infection or something, it would be totally fine as long as it was treated. However I highly doubt you were at any risk!

Thanks everyone for the reassurance
