Being induced today at 36 weeks

It was decided on Friday that I would be induced today as my last scan showed my baby's growth has slowed. We were diagnosed with IUGR at about 20 weeks. At the last scan baby weighed 3lb 13.

I've woken up so nervous 😥 I have 6 children already and I'm not scared of labour or anything like that just the induction in itself. In the past I have had a sweep but then things went naturally. I've also been on the drip but this was because labour slowed.

I've been told they would try a sweep first but at 36 weeks how likely is it that my cervix will be favourable? If sweep is successful they will move to breaking my waters and start the drip if necessary.

If my cervix isn't favourable they've said they will give me the gel, how effective is this? I hate being in hospital and our local one is rife with coronavirus at the moment so I just don't want to be there even more 😭

Successful stories please to ease my nerves x

Hi, I had 2 inductions and it was fine. Mine were because the babies were big and I had reached 40 weeks. They still didn’t want to come out though, so I had the sweep, gel, waters broken and then the drip in both cases. It’s a bit annoying being connected to a drip when you want to move around or get to the loo but it’s manageable! The labour comes on pretty quickly with the drip. With the first I had an epidural and then with the second I managed fine with gas and air. You’ll be fine, especially as you’ve done it all before! The corona virus aspect is an added worry of course but they’ll keep you and your baby as protected as possible. Good luck and hope you don’t need the gel or drip ... but even if you do, your body will know what to do!

Hi, I've just had an induction at 37 weeks. They used the balloon for the first bit, which I understand is less successful than the gel.

Our hospital is full of CV patients as well but they keep them separate and there are lots of controls in place so when you there its almost not a worry.
To begin with my cervix was completely not dilated AT ALL. still they inserted it and low and behold 12 hours later I was dilated 2cm and they were able to move me to the delivery ward for the induction drip.

Ultimately my induction didnt work but that was because of reasons relating specifically to me and not the induction process.

I found the whole things reasonably okay, the first part came off without a hitch. Getting waters broken was fine (if a little bit uncomfortable, but not painful). I lasted on the drip for about 20 hours and honestly, it was fine and all I had was gas and air, until right at the end when I had an epidural (maybe the last hour).

It's not happened 😩 sat there for hours but I'm now home. I was examined and was dilated enough to break waters but neonatal is closed due to full capacity so it's safer to wait. New plan is sweep and monitoring on Wednesday. Monitoring Friday if nothing comes of sweep and then induction Sunday at 37 weeks. I'm disappointed I didn't get to meet him today but there's a reason it didn't happen and given he has IUGR and may have a genetic or chromosomal disorder I feel an extra few days will benefit him. Thank you all for responses xx

That's frustrating OP, but also understand it's better to wait especially if you need neonatal help (which hopefully you won't and all will be fine).
Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼
