I’m super organised and almost obsessive about researching products before I buy them.. prior to lockdown I was working very long hours so I would be doing my research etc but never really got round to buying things unless I really needed them!
However with being furloughed and pregnant, I’ve made so many lists, done so much research and basically bought everything I could want and need for baby....
My mum gave some money towards the pram and crib but I’ve now got MIL and other family and friends asking what I would like or need for baby...
I’ve pretty much got the basics, everything you’d find on a list plus toiletries etc. And I feel kind of rude saying I’ve got everything?
So would love to know what sort of gifts you got that were off the traditional lists but that were really useful or sentimental or just really thoughtful !

Have you got a tuppence and crumble star blanket? This was my favourite buy I wished I'd known about earlier x

UrsulaSings · 31/05/2020 23:43

I'm exactly the same as you - I even have the star wrap that a PP suggested! In fact, I got 2! One in 0 - 3 months, and one 3 months+

Interested to see what others suggest as I've had people asking what I would like and I honestly don't know what to ask for.

Grownags in bigger sizes
Baby grows particularly 9 months
Socks
Supply of baby meds - the ones you don’t want to use until it’s 4am and you’ve had no sleep
Nappies in bigger sizes
Baby toys those stackable plastic cups were great.

OP I'm the same as you. I enjoy researching things and made sure we has bought everything well in advance of the due date. I'd held back a couple of big items that that didn't need immediately in case parents wanted to buy (cot mattress and baby monitor) but in hindsight I should have held back some small things too for friends to get as I received a lot of duplicates, albeit the friends didnt actually ask if there was anything we needed.

Since lockdown we have received 7 comforters, 3 of which have been embroidered with baby's name on. Nice thought but I'm not really sure what I'm meant to do with one of them, never mind 7. I've also been given so many 0-3 month clothes and I'd already got some myself. I even got given 2 sophie the giraffes and a whole cot full of stuffed toys.

I'd therefore recommend
Larger sized clothes,
Larger sleeping bag for 6 months +
Vouchers for amazon
Vouchers for baby classes (if they exist)

Books! They won't be of much use until later, but by the time DS1 was about 10 months I was going crazy reading the same six books over and over. It's a shame people tend to give presents when babies are born and not 6-10 months old when suddenly you need a whole load of stuff. I agree with PPs, anything for six months down the line is great.

We bought basically everything ourselves, mum and dad gave us some cash to help out while baby is in hospital with travel and food and such, MiL we suggested some swaddle blankets that hubs loved, but we don't really have friends so that's all we had to think about lol.

TheTeenageYears · 01/06/2020 02:15

Are any of the items you've bought returnable so you can ask people for those items?

For someone like MIL you could ask her if she would like to put some money away for future shoes and make a traditional of buying child's shoes together when they need them. Saves you the future cost and she gets to feel included in something to do with her GC.

We bought everything ourselves too . Nobody really asked us what we wanted but after baby was born we received a lot of clothing , blankets , stuff animals, teething toys , books and a few people bought us toys for when baby was a bit older .

Ewan the sheep, or similar soother.
Weaning sets (the 1st 6months will fly by!)
Baby gates?
Swimwear?
All not necessary, but just some ideas xx
