Winter baby - blankets?

I know...I'm full of questions. Sorry!! Things are so confusing as a first time mum. There are so many options and it's difficult to know what is right and what is a nice to have!

So I have bought 2 cellular blankets and a knitted blanket. I'm hoping to get out for walks with baby in the pram and I was wondering what I need to keep baby warm and the type of blanket that would be best...

I'm also thinking I'd need a pramsuit?

What did those of you with winter babies use?

I'm also a ftm having a winter baby. I've read that pramsuits are a bit of a pain to get on and off and have read a few recommendations for the tuppence and crumble starsnug, so we'll be getting one of those 🙂

Don't bother with pram suits, they're a pain and virtually never get worn. Layering is your friend here. Vests, baby grows, cardigans/hats/mitts, then blankets on top. Remove blanket layers if baby feels too warm, or add more if too cold. I had a January baby and it was freezing Smile

I think pramsuits depend how much you think you'll be outside walking vs in the car or home

We didn't drive with dd so pramsuit was needed for walks with her. Didn't use past the first couple of months as we started using the sling and carrier more for walks and it was a fath and worried about her overheating

If you likely will be inside or in a car you may find blankets, layers and a warm coat fine enough through winter months but maybe just see how you get on first before buying one?

Snowsuit/pramsuit/coats can't be worn in car seats as they are too thick so not safe in a crash.
Tuppence star wraps are good for in cars or just blankets are fine enough.

Also i would recommend a zip snowsuit rather than poppers. Much easier! Baby boden (on offer or 2nd hand) is my go to

@rottiemum88 I've also heard the same about pramsuits so wasn't sure. Did you just use a regulag cellular blanket or was there something better for the pram for winter?

Thanks @Pygmyseahorse I think I'll start with blankets and see how it works. It would just be to walk locally and maybe 10mins to my mums! We'd use the car too but probably not use a pramsuit due to overheating.

Pramsuits are good if you are planning on using a baby carrier because then the little arms and legs hanging out are all wrapped up warm.

We had our baby in December. If we were going to be outside for a long time (i.e. just walking somewhere) we would do pramsuit and a blanket and a hat. But if you’re going round the shops for example I would do a coat and blankets so you can easily take layers off while you’re inside. I would recommend getting a pramsuit with poppers on it down the legs like a baby grow if you can. Ours had a zip that went down the front to crotch level and honestly it was an absolute pain to get on and off, especially as DD got bigger!

Had a summer baby last time, but due November with my second. Just got a foot muff that clips into the pram, as I remember how much my first loved to kick blankets off (when we got to winter).

We had cellular blankets and also a couple of fleecy ones. DS was always plenty warm enough Smile
