Hi Ladies,
So it’s 03.19am whilst I write this and I’m wide awake but so tired, but can’t go back to sleep because I’m feeling hot and nauseous.
I did 2 last tests yesterday, of which were both positive and I’m 4 weeks today. Told my OH yesterday and he is so excited!

Basically the last few days I’ve had nausea all throughout the day, eases off during the day and then comes back either before I go to bed or during the night which is woken me up tonight. I hate the feeling of sickness so I was wondering if there are anything anyone has tried like snacks or drinks or anything that can ease it a bit.
Any suggestions will be sooooo appreciated x

Eating carbs often throughout the day stop me from gagging. Mine is also linked to sleep and stress. The more I sleep and stay calm, the less nausea I have the day after.

I really feel for you as I had it pretty bad at the start, especially in the evenings and nights and I have a severe hatred of feeling sick and vomiting. I spent quite a bit of my first trimester in tears because I felt bad.

My tips are

  • eat very bland food and only when you feel you can. Don’t worry about regular meals
  • I found bananas and jacket potatoes or crackers the best to try
  • get some anti nausea travel sickness bands from boots. I didn’t take mine off. I ended up upgrading to Emeterm which is a bracelet version
  • ginger candies can give some relief
  • don’t be afraid to go to the GP. I found cyclizine very helpful also as it makes you sleepy

You’ll feel better soon and it will pass x

For some reason fizzy water worked really well for me, as did salt and vinegar crisps. This seems bizarre now, but that's what got me through!

CoolNoMore · 30/05/2020 04:32

Yes, Mumsnet, speech and language therapist crisps. That's what I meant Hmm

Chicken123 · 30/05/2020 04:33

Thank you for your reply @walkingchuckydoll especially at this time!

Yeah, that’s what I tried to do yesterday although I physically couldn’t really even eat anything until around 8pm.

It could maybe down to slight anxiety as m so early and you always read worrying threads on here (I need to learn to not read them!)

If this is how I’m feeling this early on, I just hope for my own sake that it doesn’t get really bad and stay for a long time x

@JKD1982
Me too! If I can help it, I will try my hardest not to be physically sick but I do always find I feel better after.
I might have to invest in those travel sickness bands for sure!
Thank you, I really hope so!

@CoolNoMore
Thank you for your suggestions, funnily enough I have just eaten half a pack of salt and vinegar crisps although they didn’t really do much.
Think it may be a case of trying different things to see what helps.
I will try anything right now😂😭

My last pregnancy I had constant nausea every day. I had to almost always be nibbling to keep it away. Ginger biscuits were one of the only things that worked. I did have a little craving for pasta in tomato sauce with a slice of white bread and butter one evening and I lost my sickness for almost 24hr, must have been the carb overload.

Just got my bfp yesterday, will be 4 weeks on Monday/Tuesday and not looking forward to the constant nausea but I also am because it means we got there! Grin and believe me, I will happily have nausea every minute of the next 36 weeks if it meant little one would be happy and safe. Fx

Good luck. Xx

SquigglyOne · 30/05/2020 05:24

It’s awful isn’t it?
My only advice would be just eat whatever you fancy whenever you can. I started to feel really guilt as the only thing I could keep down was complete junk - lots and lots of carbs! Midwife reassured me that baby would take what it needed before me.

Bestbe · 30/05/2020 05:30

My first pregnancy I had this and didn’t eat it was awful. Subsequent pregnancies I ate small amounts often. I’d have water and crackers next to my bed when I woke up. This was better but it’s always still there. The joy of pregnancy! On the once the baby was born it vanished and even lack of sleep and exhaustion was fine because I didn’t feel sick.
Just keep nibbling and try ginger. X

CoolNoMore · 30/05/2020 05:31

Just remembered, sniffing cut lemons helped a lot! Anytime I had to take the tube in my first pregnancy, I had my nose jammed in a tupperware full of them.

Coldhandscoldheart · 30/05/2020 05:39

@Coolnomorevthats a really good tip.
Mainlining white carbs was my go to. As pp almost constantly nibbling - toast, bread, crisps. Not too much tho or it made it worse 🙄
Take your vitamins, eat as good a diet as you can manage & try not to worry as pp said, the little parasites will take what they need.
Congratulations :)

Elephantonascooter · 30/05/2020 05:52

I got anti sickness tablets from the doc. They were a game changer

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 30/05/2020 06:13

I found the first 14 weeks rough as I was so nauseous, rarely sick but constantly felt it! My tips would be make sure you stay really hydrated, buy yourself (if you dont have one already) a water bottle that keeps contents cold and put ice water in there and just sip at it. I also used to have ice lollies, just the fruit pastilles/tip top type ones. No idea why but anything really cold just used to keep the sickness at bay for a bit. Also easier said than done but trying to sleep as much as possible, when I was tired it was always so much worse.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Chicken123 · 30/05/2020 08:14

@Thekindyoufindinasecondhand
Thank you so much for your tips. I will definitely try the cold water and ice lollies to see how I get on.
I might really try and have a sleep. I’m not overly tired but if it helps then I’ll give it a good go!
Thank you so much! Still in shock x

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I had horrible morning sickness for several weeks during the first/second trimester. You could try-

Ginger tea, crystalised ginger cubes (from Holland and Barrat) or ginger biscuits
Eating little and often, usually plain carbs- I found I felt most sick when I hadn’t eaten
Magnesium spray (again from Holland and Barrat)
Seasickness bands
Flat coke for the sugar

Eventually I was so ill with feeling sick/throwing up, that I was prescribed the anti-sickness tablets they give to chemo patients! So don’t be afraid to go to the your GP as they can help you!

Good luck!
