The anxiety! Pregnancy after reoccurring miscarriages

So im 6+5 weeks pregnant, I have a scan at 7 weeks to check if things are going okay, my tests are super dark and got dark really quickly- I went from a 2-3 weeks on a clearblue digital to 3+ in 4 days....

But I cannot shake this feeling, this anxiety, I've had 3 miscarriages in a row, last one was in Feb when baby died at 9 and half weeks.

Every twinge I panic, every wet feeling I run to the bathroom expecting bleeding, I worry everyday and I wish i could stop but I know I can't because of my pregnancy history, some days its a passing moment of doubt, then its gone and I'm fine!

Anyone got any tips or help to keep relatively calmer lol

I can relate as had 7 cycles of IVF and two miscarriages before my first successful pregnancy. I was very anxious early in my first pregnancy and ended up paying for two private scans to check there was still a heartbeat. The anxiety lessened a lot after first trimester as I felt the pregnancy was safe and established by then. I actually enjoyed second trimester. So I don’t have much advice other than it gets easier! I’m pregnancy with my second now, and was much less anxious early on. Reminding myself that I had no control over the outcome helped a bit. Congratulations on your pregnancy and fingers crossed for you.

I’m now 22 weeks after 3 miscarriages. Diagnosed with APS and ‘touch wood’ so far so good. The anxiety is something else! I’m getting regular nudges now and STILL I convince myself they are in my head.

There’s a friendly thread here with ladies with the same experiences - Pregnant After Loss and Dreaming of Rainbows - 4. It’s great to have somewhere to voice the worries and celebrate successes with, You will be very welcome if you want to join us! X

My baby is here and I still don’t quite believe in him.

This, no helpful advice other than it does get slightly easier the further you get and the sad milestones you pass.

So sorry for your losses. I haven't had a miscarriage but can relate to the extreme anxiety. I'm not usually an anxious person and yet as soon as I get pregnant the anxiety about having a miscarriage is overwhelming. The scans definitely help so if you have to pay for an extra one around 9 weeks for peace of mind then it's worth doing.

Just try to take one day at a time (easier said than done) and these feelings should ease off after the 12 week milestone.

I completely get where you're coming from. After two miscarriages in the last year, I'm now 12 weeks but have been a ball of nerves the whole time. I've just tried to tell myself each day that right now I am pregnant. I've also tried to use the routine of the extra help (high dose folic acid, progesterone pesseries and now daily aspirin) to help calm my nerves. Have you been seen by a recurring miscarriage clinic? Having ask the tests done was really helpful to can my anxiety.

I had a scan at 7, 10 and 12 weeks and braced myself for bad news at each but instead there was wriggling little creature with a heartbeat. I still worry something can go wrong but I'm starting to get more comfortable with the idea that is much more likely that everything will go well.

MariaDingbat · 31/05/2020 09:37

And good luck with your scan!

EllieJai44 · 31/05/2020 10:12

@MariaDingbat thanks for your reply! I already have a 15 month old daughter and the miscarriages have been since having her, we were referred to the miscarriage clinic at the beginning of the year but because of the coronavirus it was put on hold 🤦‍♀️ we decided to just see what happens as it was becoming longer and longer waits!

I'm on higher dose folic acid and asprin- can I ask what dose of asprin you're on?

@EllieJai44 That's so frustrating they put the tests on hold. Hopefully things will start moving soon and you can get them done. My clinic tests all came back clear thankfully and the Dr. prescribed progesterone. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but this pregnancy is sticking so I'm grateful I had them.

I'm on 75mg of aspirin a day, it's the ones you disolve in water and they're pretty yuk.

MariaDingbat · 02/06/2020 16:30

I also think it's mad that they're giving me aspirin but won't check my blood pressure or bloods for two months as they've cancelled the 16 and 25 week appointments.

EllieJai44 · 02/06/2020 16:34

@MariaDingbat I had my scan yesterday and we saw a heartbeat, measured a few days behind but kind of expected that with ovulating a few days later, I've been taking my asprin as a tablet, they didn't tell me to dissolve it 🤔

Congratulations!!! That's wonderful news!!! I had a scan at exactly 7 weeks and measured 6+4, then measured a few days ahead at 10 weeks so they can catch up quickly.

I'd much rather take mine as a pill but the instructions say to dissolve them in water. Apparentlyy the dissolving ones are cheaper for the NHS!

EllieJai44 · 02/06/2020 16:51

@MariaDingbat thats exactly what we measured and was meant to be! I will have another scan at 10 weeks to make sure everything is okay still!

I will have to look at mine, I think they just say Asprin and 75mg, I'm not sure i can stomach it is i had to dissolve and drink it 🤢
