Can a baby move TOO much in the womb? 29 weeks

Hi,

I am 29+5. Baby had a quiet day yesterday, almost to the point where I phoned the maternity unit but then started moving as usual when I was about to phone. Today the baby has been moving a lot, all day. The movements also feel stronger than any I have had before. Should I be concerned by this drop then increase of movement, or could baby be having a growth spurt/have changed position?

@Nellie3 I’m not as far along as you are but I’ve been let to believe that any movement that you feel is out of the ordinary is worth calling the maternity unit about. It can’t hurt to give them a call just to be safe!

I would get any change in movements checked out OP. I went to get monitored because DS's movements had slowed down, we were kept in for longer because he started up again but the movements were very frequent. The midwives told me they would definately check out any change.

Thanks, I just called and they were lovely and told me off a bit for not calling yesterday when movements were reduced, oops! They said movements are a sign baby is healthy and sometimes they can have very active days depending on what you have eaten etc, but to call again if I notice reduced movements any time as that is when they are most concerned.

I was once told to go in for monitoring as baby was super active for hours and hours. All was well in the end but I was glad to have it checked out since it was a change in pattern.

Really they should be checking. Any change to the normal pattern needs checking.

My friend's baby had a quiet period and she started to worry but then the baby began to move again and she was reassured but the movements were incessant. The baby was distressed. There was a happy ending but the baby was delivered immediately. The advice is ANY change in movements for a reason.

I'm 29 weeks and still don't really have an exact pattern as such (anterior placenta).
I was recommended a kicks count app which I downloaded which reassures me somewhat as i can see the movements steadily increasing as time goes on even though day to day i feel like I have quiet and active days. The average curve overall is going up and up each week

If baby moves too little or too much you must ring up and be checked out. I thought it was strange that too much movement could be a sign of distress but apparently it is. Any changes in movement needs to be checked.
