30 weeks, baby measuring on 90th percentile

Actually I’m 30+5 today.

Baby’s head measuring 34 weeks and waist 33 weeks, thigh bone was a little longer than expected but not as much off the curve as the other measurements.

I was a bit surprised as my bump isn’t particularly big - still able to wear some non maternity clothes although admittedly only the elasticated waist stuff.

I was due to have the GD test but it was cancelled due to Covid and the just did fasting blood sugar instead, which was fine apparently.

Did anyone else get similar measurements? What happened? Did you go on to have a big baby? Did you deliver naturally? Did you need interventions?

Right from my booking in appointment I was told I’d be induced due to my age(40), I’m keen to avoid this if possible but thinking its looking like they’ll definitely want to do it now.

Im 35+6 and measuring at 40. Ive been measuring ahead since 28 weeks. I find out this friday what’s happening.

I never got the GTT due to covid.

My DD measured 95-99 percentile in utero. Arrived on her due date at 50th! Even scans are inaccurate, and the bump measuring even more so!

A friend of mine was induced recently as baby was measuring small - came out at 8lb10.
I’ve heard so many stories like this - it seems growth scans aren’t all that accurate.

SunbathingDragon · 26/05/2020 18:06

At 31 weeks DC4 was big (off the charts) according to the growth scan but born just below 25th centile. DC2 was showing as 50th centile throughout and was born around 5th.

Have they mentioned blood sugar monitoring with baby'a stomach measuring further ahead? As that can be a sign of GD. A random fasting level isn't very accurate. It's just I had GD and my fasting levels were always within range.
My baby measured small so I had to be induced at 37 weeks and It wasn't a bad experience. X

90th centile is still normal, just the higher end and like others have said growth scans are often inaccurate

DS was measuring above 100th percentile before he was born. I decided to have a c-section mostly because of how big he was. I was also suffering from PGP and was worried about doing additional damage in labour. He was born at 39 weeks 10lbs 10oz. He's 6 months old and still a big boy.

AliasGrape · 26/05/2020 20:51

Thanks all, it’s interesting to hear the different experiences.
StoneSourFan The consultant just said today that over 90th centile can mean they look at GD but my blood tests were fine so they’re not concerned. I’m slightly worried like you say that the fasting bloods weren’t the best indication.
Tempted to get some monitoring strips myself just to see.

I've had many friends who've needed growth scans and every single one of their results were wildly out! Always, always predicted far bigger than they actually were. On the flip side, I had a huge bump and measured of the chart when they used their tape measures but was never offered any scans. I ended up giving birth to an 11lber (with a 99centile head Confused) with only gas and air. I don't say that to boast, just as reassurance!

WeeDinah · 29/05/2020 20:45

I went today I'm 27 +1 and my midwife told me he was measuring 36 weeks!!! I was sent straight to hospital for a scan and bloods, the sonographer said he is measuring big around his tummy area so iv to go every 2 weeks for scans now. Anybody with a similar experience? I'm awaiting my bloods results to check for diabetes

StoneSourFan · 29/05/2020 22:21

@WeeDinah one of the signs for gestational diabetes is that baby has a large tummy due to excess sugar. If your results come back positive or you want some support in the mean time there is a lovely group on Facebook called gestational diabetes mums UK. Lots of advice and support xx

I measured 4 weeks over from about wk 30 , ended up with a 10lb 8 Baby who was born via emergency csection after a long long labour. My 2nd however measured 2 weeks behind the whole time and was also big at 9
Lb 12 so I don’t think the measurement are always spot on x

Monsterjam · 29/05/2020 22:33

Oh an no GD with either baby x

zaffa · 29/05/2020 22:41

DD measured above 97th percentile in scans from 32 weeks onward. At one point there was a concern her head was growing too fast too and although I had a negative GTT test the final scan (at 37 weeks when they confirmed her head was fine) they clearly didn't believe there was no GD. Predicted 10 pound baby at term and booked in for induction as I couldn't go over due to her size.

Baby born via emergency section after failed induction weighing 8.5 pounds - around 80th percentile for all measurements (born two days early) so not small but also not the massive baby they predicted.
The last scan was done by a senior sonographer (due to head concerns) who was absolutely sure of her measurements.

So it's not always accurate really
