I know the allowance is 2000 calories if you're pregnant and a bit extra later on but did you actually eat this amount? With my dd I religiously counted and ate my 2000 but didn't go over. Tried to eat healthily with fruit and veg etc. I gained 24lbs but I see people saying they only put a stone on etc. I'm 13 weeks now and started with a bmi of 26 as got pregnant soon after miscarriage. I've already gained 5lb

Where did you find the 2000 calorie allowance? For my height and weight, my fitness app recommends 1450 calories a day. (Thats based on the absolute minimum my body needs to function) but i have a very active job and usually burn several hundred more than that, and can therefore eat more to maintain my weight. At the moment i eat way more than i need to cause of the nausea, so I've put on loads of weight 😳 the one plus side is I've eaten healthier this pregnancy, instead of cakes and chocolate all the time i eat a lot of fruit and salad so im hoping that will make a difference!! Im hoping when the nausea subsides so will my over eating, cause i reckon im probably putting on 1-2lb a week at the moment!

Good god no, my BMI is already 37, I’d be the size of a house!

I don’t count calories, I count carbs. So I eat healthy fats, nuts etc. Trying not to gain any as I lost 6 stone last year before I fell pregnant and have stayed the same weight since falling pregnant (25 weeks now) - all medical professionals happy with how things are going and all for me not gaining any weight.

Obsese women do tend to gain less or lose in pregnancy though.

That article just says you don't need any more than usual, which averages at about 2000 a day. Eat what you normally eat, unless that was causing an upward trend.

A gain of 24lb is perfectly reasonable - in fact it's slap bang in the middle of the recommended figure for people who were a healthy weight beforehand.

(I put on three stone, which generally causes quizzical looks - but it was all off six months after birth, both times. current bmi happened later)

Don't obsess too much. Avoid the foods you're not supposed to eat, don't skimp on protein and healthy fats, and go for lots of vegetables.

Hi OP my stats are pretty much the exact same as yours bmi 26 at check in appointment and myfitnesspal calculated my TDEE at around 2000 cals for my level of activity and fitness, 5 pound gain at 13 weeks is perfectly normal, if you feel satisfied with that amount of calories and don't feel you're either forcing them down or too hungry I'd stick with that. Flowers xxx Listen to your body.

Ps At 26 BMI 24 pound gain like with your DD is a healthy amount of weight, 1 stone total gain seems very low unless you're starting from a very high BMI the weight gain isn't just baby but, placenta, litres of extra blood, breasts, uterus, muscle and fluid retention etc
