If you bottle feed get two different coloured bottle tops so you know who’s fed and who isn’t
Sometime they feed together other times opposite.

Another twin mum! Mine are 6yo boy/girl.
My take on it: twins are hard when they are babies just because if the logistics of having two: carrying them, settling them to sleep, feeding them - I remember sitting with one leg crossed, one twin laid with their head on the knee of the crossed leg and they other one against my arm, feeding them with one bottle in each hand... all good until they need to be burped at the same time 😅... HOWEVER when they age you realize that you are so lucky to have two of the same age! From 1yo or so they entertain eachother and will play together in a playpen for ages, and it just goes uphill from there.

I have a lovely video of them aged 9mo, each in a cot at naptime, with a wardrobe between the cots, they starting playing pickaboo with one hiding behind the wardrobe and the other one shrieking when they appeared. I think this was the beginning of fun times!!!

My two are best friends, they have the same homework (makes homeschooling easier!), they play with the same toys and generally they are less demanding of adult attention when playing as they always have a parter with them! It is amazing to see them grow together, really really worth the hard work at the beginning.

Oops that was long

Aww all your experiences sound amazing. I have two sets of twin cousins and they are close!

Does anyone have any experience on breastfeeding?

ChampooPapi · 25/05/2020 21:44

@PleasePassTheCoffeeThanks it was beautiful 💕 so dont apologise for the lengh for a second. It actually brought a tear to my eyes reading it. You made me so excited about my twins when I had been feeling a bit shakey about the whole thing today. It is an unbelievable honer isnt it really, i mean how lucky are we!

I'm only 14 weeks so a while to go until I meet my girls

Not much experience breastfeeding but there's a great FB group - breastfeeding twins and triplets
I tried but my babies were a little bit little in terms of a good latch etc. I feel like we could have got there had I persevered with it but I was really struggling with everything and it felt OK to stop. Some of my friends with singletons of very similar ages also really struggled which made me feel better about stopping.
I expressed until they were 4 months (a bottle of breast milk a day each)
So many pros and cons to both types of feeding :)

Several mums at my local twin group have successfully breastfed and still going strong at 18 mths

You just flip them over your leg and the soon burp.

Hi!

I'm 18 weeks pregnant with DCDA twins, don't know their sexes yet, will find out at the 20 week scan.

I was a bit worried about how breast feeding will go but I attended a Twins Trust webinar on breastfeeding multiples last week and it was really informative, they gave lots of advice on who to contact for advice. They seemed really supportive! The NCT have good breastfeeding advisers too, it might be worth emailing your local one to ask for some advice beforehand?

Hope everyone who is pregnant with their twins is doing well?

I have 6 year old twins. I agree with please pass the coffee, they are so lucky to have each other especially now. I have so many videos from 6-12 months of them just laughing and laughing at each other. When they were first born, they cried whenever they were separated. They had a twin cot in hospital (A few days of transitional care, which means cared for by me but with nurses around) and would cuddle up so close. They even hiccupped in unison, their tiny arms rising over their heads at the same time. As they've got older they defend each other fiercely, though also fight, never want to speak to each other again and 'I'm not your best friend anymore".

I mix fed to start then built up to just breastfeeding because I found it easier (dairy and soya allergy played a part). I couldn't get my head around winding and propping up two babies at once. Plus when I was very sleep deprived I needed an easy way to calm two babies down.

Basically you can still be whatever kind of mum you want to be. I have twin mum friends who had strict routines and completely baby led friends and everything in between.

My husband and other twin dad's I know are the most involved fathers in my friendship group. The only one who didn't share nights is a consultant surgeon.

Good luck.

BBB18 · 04/06/2020 22:13

@EmmaA96 thank you 😀😀 i know it's so lovely to be having my own twins 😍 apart from feeling quite tired I've been feeling just fine 🤞 thankfully! X

My twin girls are now aged 5 years. Also identical.

I wanted to breastfeed too however, when they were born I didn't produce enough milk and they lost 10 per cent of their birth weight in the first few days and I didn't have any idea they weren't getting enough. I would supplement half formula and half breast milk and I would suggest pumping also. I did this for 3 months and it worked well. Means dad and other family members can lend a hand also. Good luck.
