Does late ovulation affect your due date and progression?

Hey I got my bfp at the weekend and based on my lmp im 5 weeks today but I ovulated quite late at CD23 (out of a usual 30 day cycle). When im looking at weekly progression of embryos/feotus' do I need to knock off a week because of the late ovulation? Or do you just assume I implanted really quick and still base it on LMP?

Also at what stage does chemical pregnancies stop becoming a thing and any losses are considered miscarriage? Im really scared of this being a chemical given the late ovulation and wouldnt of thought id had long enough to prepare for a implantation so im just trying to reassure myself and wonder when im out the "danger zone" for chemicals (i know standard is 12 weeks)

Thanks x

I used the NHS due date calculator which deducts a week. Re chemical pregnancy, I think its once you pass the date of your expected period.

bluefoxmug · 21/05/2020 19:36

tbh at this stage nothing is certain. ovulation, implantation can be weeks apart.
the first scan is used for dating and adapting your due date.

Melbs6 · 21/05/2020 21:08

Congratulations! I’d use your ovulation date rather than your LMP date. Some pregnancy calculators let you put in ovulation date so go by what that says (or add on 9 days if you’re going by a LMP calculator as they assume ovulation on day 14).

A chemical pregnancy is considered a clinical pregnancy when the embryonic sac can be picked up on a scan which is around 5 weeks. So after 5 weeks it’s considered a miscarriage rather than a chemical pregnancy. As far as I’m aware late ovulation doesn’t affect chances of a chemical pregnancy or miscarriage, but late implantation does increase chances of a chemical pregnancy / early miscarriage

Jupiter15 · 21/05/2020 21:53

If you know definitely know when you ovulated (in your case 9 days) you’d need to add on 9 days to the due date calculated by lmp or take 1 week and 2 days off of how pregnant you are. I would say you were 3 weeks an 5 days pregnant going by your ovulation date.
You won’t know your due date for sure until your dating week scan.

Hatscats · 21/05/2020 22:25

Midwife will use your last period date, And not adjusted until your dating scan at 12 weeks. I ovulated about day 20, so due date moved from 15th to 20th once I had my scan.

sel2223 · 21/05/2020 23:29

As above, the midwife will go by your LMP as a guide until you've had your dating scan.
Your actual EDD will be based on baby's measurements at that scan which depend on when you ovulated.

I had an early scan and measured 11 days different to LMP but had caught up by around a week by the time I had my dating scan which was spot on for ovulation.

Thanks guys for your help.
So if I minused off the 9 days putting me at 3 + 5 how is it possible to have so many symptoms and clear as day positives on multiple tests. Sorry im confused and really really anxious, I cant stop crying im panicking that much Sad

@lottie3093, don't be anxious. I also ovulate late and have long cycles (I think I ovulated cd24 in what would have been a 40 day cycle). The NHS calc puts me at over a week more advanced than I am (which is only 7+3). I went for a private scan this week at what I thought was 6+6 and it dated me as 7+0 so spot on basically with ovulation. I think it means my NHS 12 week scan will basically be too early, but from what I understand that's ok. What is your main concern? You can definitely have strong positives at 3+5 - I did! Xx

Mammyofasuperbaby · 22/05/2020 11:18

I normally ovulate on cd18 if I have any chance of falling pregnant. However I only have one surviving child from cd18 ovulation. I also seem to have ovulated on cd22 and I'm now 27+6 with our second surviving child and he is doing so much better than his surviving sibling.
Try not to worry to much, due dates are a guess anyway and your 12 week scan will give you a due date that is more accurate. Mine changed by 8 days and everything is fine

Chanel05 · 22/05/2020 12:36

I ovulated on CD20 and when I registered my pregnancy with my hospital, I put my LMP start date 6 days later. At my 12 week scan the dates were bang on.

I believe a chemical is up to 6 weeks and 6-24 weeks is a mc.

Eskdale2004 · 22/05/2020 13:15

I’m feeling a bit deflated today if I’m honest. FINALLY had my booking in app on Tuesday. Picked up my notes Wednesday. Unfortunately missed a call from the hospital yesterday as I was changing my little girl’s nappy. Tried ringing back and just got passed round in circles so didn’t get anywhere. They said not to worry as they would’ve sent me a letter out with an appointment. No letter today, no post until Tuesday now so I’m feeling pretty pissed off. I’m 13 weeks tomorrow, high risk with a history of loss. What if they’ve arranged an appointment for me on Tuesday morning and I don’t get the letter until dinner time? Will I have to wait another eternity for a scan? I just want to get it over with. I hate hospitals, hate appointments of any sort and the anxiety about the actual scan is really getting to get to me.

Eskdale2004 · 22/05/2020 13:16

Wrong thread. Sorry!

Lottie3093 · 22/05/2020 13:28

@gb000 thankyou, i think my main worry is because my cycles are only usually 29-30 days long and I had awful pains 7 days post ovulation which im guessing were implantation pains that its just way too short leutal time to be possible. I kind of feel like a chemical is going to happen and im just sat here waiting for it to happen.
If we were going by lmp it makes me feel better that im almost out the danger zone for a chemical but the thought of being 9 days behind and having to wait longer for an earlier scan is killing me!

Thanks @Mammyofasuperbaby thats reassuring!

Thankyou @chanel05

@Eskdale2004 i hope you get sorted!

I am exactly the same as you OP. I just had a positive test today it's come as a massive shock!
I would be 5 weeks today going off LMP but think I ovulated day 23.
I last had a baby 14 years ago so I have never heard of chemical pregnancies before. I'm only just starting to look into things I'm worried now. Why are later ov dates more likely to be a chemical? Is Mc much more likely??
Congratulations to you Thanks

Lottie3093 · 22/05/2020 21:38

@tiredandemosh1 thanks and congratulations to you aswell! Flowers
I think the risk for chemicals with late ovulation depends on your normal cycle length. For example mine is usually 29/30 days so 7 days of leutal phase is usually too short and not enough time to thicken your uterus for implantation so im assuming that increases chance of chemical. If you had slightly longer cycles with a normal leutal phase I assume a slighter less risk. I could be wrong though, i just know short leutal phases are a cause of infertility.
I went to my EPAU today as I had horrific 1 sided abdo pain - they couldnt see anything on USS not even a sac but bloods showed hcg of 100 so theyve said to go by my conception date as its more likely im 4 weeks today rather than 5 + 2.

I really didnt think pregnancy would be this stressful already lol Blush

Thanks for trying to clarify it for me! I'm quite sure implantation for me was day 28. I had a random gush, thought it was af starting but only lasted half a day. I've been googling all sorts but I need to stop now.
Today has been a massive emotional rollercoaster for me. I ably did the test this afternoon, never actually imagined it'd be positive!!

tiredandemosh1 · 24/05/2020 14:29

@Lottie3093 how are you feeling today? Is everything ok?

Lottie3093 · 25/05/2020 20:31

@tiredandemosh1 sorry for the late reply. Im trying to keep off here as its making me anxious. I had repeat hcg as EPAU yesterday and it was 278 but still cant rule out ectopic until repeat scan on saturday. Pain was horrendous yesterday but its okay today.

I too cant stop looking at google and its driving me mad. Worst thing you can do. Cant help it though! How u feeling today x

Ah bless you @Lottie3093, so sorry to hear you're having such an anxious time. Good news that HGC is going up, I have my fingers crossed that everything is in the right place!
Apart from my boobs being sore I haven't any other symptoms, they aren't as sore as they were though so I'm worried.
I'm working this week so hopefully keeping busy will distract me. I will be thinking about you!
