Can an anterior placenta cushion movements at 30 weeks?

Just wondering if an anterior placenta can still cushion babies movements at 30 weeks? I know it can earlier on, but can it still by this point?

Any experiences appreciated x

No personal experience as my placentas have always been at the back but I thought it was only earlier on when the baby was small. I think if you are having any concerns about your babies movements or change in their pattern please phone up and speak to a midwife, they will never tell you you are silly for phoning up Smile

Sometimes if I'm in the bath I see some movements that I can't feel and I assume my anterior placenta is blocking. So I would say yes

Hi @Byets I am 31 weeks with an anterior placenta and last week I went in to triage with reduced movement and they monitored me for 40 minutes, they baby was moving lots but I couldn’t feel it because placenta was cushioning it. I felt much better after being checked out though.

Missdrifter · 19/05/2020 20:27

They didn’t make me feel silly at all and said that if the same happens even the day after then to come back in 😊

Thank you for your replies everyone 😊 I never really get too worried when I feel less movements as it has been like this ever since I've been able to feel him. I just suddenly had a rush of worry whether it's normal for it to still be like this at 30 weeks 🤣 glad you all experience the same xx

Yes... my first was an anterior placenta and only when I was pregnant with my second and had a normal placenta could I compare the difference in movements.

With the comparison I can see in hindsight just how “muffled” the feeling of the first baby’s movements were. All the way through pregnancy one the moments were subtle. Pregnancy two was like having a monkey trapped inside of me trying to break out!

Obviously if you are concerned you should always get it checked but there was, I found, a definite difference.

I had trouble feeling movements later on. When I spoke to the hospital, they said they it is because the placenta also grows. I did go in to be monitored at 36 weeks, and even though they could detect movement (and I saw my stomach moving), I couldn’t feel it! They suggested watching for movement. But definitely phone the hospital, if worried.
Before going in, they asked me to drink a can of fizzy juice, lie on my side and hold my belly to try and feel movement.

Following as I'm 28 weeks with an anterior placenta.

I had an anterior placenta and as time went on (sorry, can't remember specific weeks but yes 30+) movement around my ribs at the top of the bump became more noticeable/uncomfortable whilst movement lower down around the belly button was much softer.

BabyG123 · 19/05/2020 21:46

I had this my whole pregnancy. Had to go in 3 times for reduced Movements!!!

DJBebe · 20/05/2020 07:55

Following. I'm 21 weeks and only felt some twitching yesterday and the day before for the 1st time. Nothing today so far but interested to know if the movements start to feel stronger as the baby grows.

DJBebe · 20/05/2020 07:55

I've forgotten to mention that i have an anterior placenta too.

MsChatterbox · 20/05/2020 08:06

I've had an anterior placenta for both pregnancies and by 30 weeks I would be feeling movement elsewhere even if they are kicking into placenta. If you are concerned about reduced movements please be seen!

jdy123 · 20/05/2020 08:24

I'm the same where I'm 30 weeks on Saturday and sometimes I can see movement but I can't actually feel it. For this reason I lie down at night sometimes when I'm worried with my belly on show so I can see any movements too! So it definitely must still cushion at 30 weeks. But if you're worried I would definitely go in...

Thank you everyone 😊 he decided to start moving loads when I got into bed last night after a couple of days of not feeling him properly! Definitely hope if I have any more babies that I don't have an anterior placenta again, I feel for anyone that has one! Nightmare isn't it x

I'm 30wks with an anterior placenta and it's been pretty annoying. At the weekend I was getting lots of big kicks like he was trying to escape then the last 2 days much quieter. I can always get him to move by laying on my side. I think it depends how active I am. At the weekend I was very active and busy but the last 2 days I've been sat at my desk working. I hope as he gets bigger it gets easier to feel.
