Ok so ignore the downstairs area 😂🤦‍♀️

So I rung the doctors last week and they gave me some anti biotics but didn't actually see me in person, I then went to midwives who took a swab and that came back clear.
But this is getting worse, there's a strong smell, smells like rotten flesh or something disgusting. It's not painful as such, just uncomfortable and stings a bit.
It's leaking fluid, not pus but clear..

Is this an infection and what should I do to help? In going to ring doctors again tomorrow to see if I can get seen.

I had something similar and they gave me a cream mixed with a steroid and that sorted it out quite quickly. Key thing was Keri g it as dry as possible, I used to fan it with a bit of card after a shower.

I’d call the gp again. Do you have a temperature or anything?

Canesten cream is what I used when I had something similar and yes keeping it dry is the key.

Hi @Kayleighjones93 bless you that does look really sore! Can I ask how long ago you had your c-section? It does look particularly irritated, and the fluid you described is probably serous fluid. Looks like it probably requires a dressing to help with the healing, although your midwives advice may vary on this, failing that a salty bath would help but that depends on how new the wound is. As long as you aren't feeling under the weather I'd say it looks pretty contained which is good. Keep an eye on the redness to make sure it doesn't spread but I'd say another lot of antibiotics may be required from your doctor when you speak to them tomorrow!

The incision itself has healed really well. The skin around it is pretty red. Is the skin, when you aren’t lifting it to show the incision, touching? Could it possibly be a fungal infection?
I would ring the drs now and ask if you could send a photo for them to look at. They have the facility in most practices for patients to send a pic for assessment,

My last c-section scar got infected and I had a temperature due to the infection. The dr gave me fusidic acid cream (antibiotic cream) and told me to bathe it in salt water and put a panty liner on it in to keep it dry and clean. Wasn't sure about all that when they told me but it worked like a dream and cleared up in a few days.
You must get more advice if it smells and you don't think it's right. Insist.

How long ago was your c section? Mine was 4 weeks ago and my scar started to smell, I also had the area swapped which came back clear and antibiotics just Incase. I kept checking my temperature for signs of infection. I've been advised to keep it as drive as possible. I wrote a post for advice on here and someone recommended a medical talc powder and using a hair drying to keep it. I wear a pad on mine still atm but got told a should be airing it out twice a day also. Hope it gets better for you.

Kayleighjones93 · 19/05/2020 20:04

I had my baby 3 weeks ago.
Thank you for all your advice.
I am going to ring doctors first thing in the morning as couldn't get through this afternoon.

I've been trying to air it out as much as possible though!

I had very similar. Ended up going in and they squeezed the infection out then recovered it up. Doubled my antibiotics. It Put back my driving by a few weeks as it didn't heal as it should. Can't even see my scar now!

Kayleighjones93 · 20/05/2020 18:59

Hi all, I went to the doctors today and the nurse saw me, she had a look at scar and said it was leaking a little bit, didn't look like pus but was definitely leaking. She's put a dressing on and put some inadine on it too, told me to dress it everyday for a week and see how it is then.

Hopefully this helps, as I can't get the thought that something is wrong out of my mind!

I’m a midwife and I wouldn’t be happy with that plan tbh. It does look like it could he fungal but I’d be very concerned about a rotting flesh smell and a wound that is leaking three weeks later is not normal. I actually don’t think it looks like the incision has healed that well either (literally look at them day in day out). You’re still an obsteric patient for 28 days post-baby so I’d try to be seen by the hospital triage.

Hailey04 · 24/12/2023 02:26

has anyone have had this happen? It’s been about 15 months after having my baby and my scar hurts it’s more of really sore and red I’ve tried to keep it dry after showering but don’t know what to do
