Anyone delaying their whooping cough vaccination?

Hello. I was wondering if other pregnant ladies are still getting their whooping cough vaccinations?

I was told at my booking appointment that it's an essential vaccination to get at around 16 weeks but I'm not sure whether now is a good time to be chasing this up in light of COVID if it's not urgent. The NHS website suggests we can get it up until 32 weeks so I have some time to sort this out but I was wondering what other people are doing.

This was a question I'd intended to ask at my 16-week appointment, but my appointment was cancelled and it slipped my mind.

Thanks :)

I m going to call my GP and ask to have it after my 20 week scan is done , I got it as a baby so I m scared to delay it too much.

I had mine a few weeks ago. They seemed keen for me to get it booked in and I managed a same day appointment as they weren't busy at all. Had it done at local GP. I was in and out in minutes and it was done in the room nearest the entrance so I had minimal contact and had temp etc checked on entry. No problems.

I was phoned by a midwife and told they're doing them at the same time/location as 20 week scan, maybe check if your trust are too? They only told me a few days before.

I went for my 25 week midwife appointment today, and they had a nurse there who was doing whooping cough injections for women who wanted them. I had mine. One less trip to the clinic!

^ I'm in Liverpool, for reference.

I had mine at same time as 20 week scan albeit this was last year. So you could probably do the same to save an extra appointment.

This is so useful. Thank you everyone. My 20-week scan is coming up so I'll try and make it a two-fer :)

I'm having mine done next week at 28 weeks just before my midwife appointment so I only need to go once.

sel2223 · 19/05/2020 12:11

It is standard in my area to get it at your 25 week appointment but mine was cancelled so the midwife said she will be doing it at the 28 week appointment instead.

DJBebe · 19/05/2020 12:55

I had mine done last week when i went in for my 20 week scan.

Littlegoth · 19/05/2020 13:07

Nope, got mine today

UrsulaSings · 19/05/2020 15:39

I got mine done at the GP surgery by a nurse (not a midwife). It was a quick in and out and I was the only one in the waiting room for the 2 seconds I was stood there anyway! I would definitely say it's important and not to miss it.

FlowerPig · 19/05/2020 16:12

I had mine done this morning at the GP surgery through my car window....drive thru vaccine 😂

rocknrosie · 19/05/2020 16:15

i had it 2 weeks ago at 20w - i dont see why i'd put it off as my GP are being so careful :)

mrs87 · 19/05/2020 16:23

I haven't seen a midwife face to face since 8 weeks - but will see one at my 28 week appointment next month, so I've booked the whopping cough vac in for the same day so I don't have to go to the GP surgery twice! Whopping cough is at 9.15 then midwife appointment at 9.30 👍🏻

mrs87 · 19/05/2020 16:23

WHOOPING cough not whopping cough. Bloody autocorrect...

WhatWouldPennyDo · 19/05/2020 17:38

Mine is booked for 20 mins after my 20w scan. My midwife told me to phone the antenatal appointment line to book it in then to minimise my time spent at the hospital.

Babyshine2020 · 19/05/2020 17:42

I mentioned at my diabetes test that I was phoning the doctor to get it booked in and my midwife arranged for me to have it there and then! My hospital seemed pretty chilled about it.

Ethellsmum · 19/05/2020 23:24

I had mine at 28/29 weeks. I was due a hospital appt at 28 weeks and was told they would do it then but that got cancelled. I went to the GPs for it and it was fine - there was only me in the waiting room and the nurse had mask and gloves on. I used hand gel before going in and on coming out.
I was there 10 mins max.

zscaler · 20/05/2020 08:19

I was told to get mine at my 20 week scan, so that I will be in hospital anyway (rather than making a separate trip).
