First scan at 16 weeks

I've eventually managed to get my dating scan 4 weeks late due to the pandemic going on.
I have it at 3pm today but I'm just wondering if there is any chance of finding out the gender of the baby? I'm coming up 17 weeks and I've heard people have found out at this stage but I'm just wondering.
This is my first baby so all the scans and stuff is really new to me.

I'm grateful for any answers 😊

My 12 week scan was actually at 17+5! I know local to me, the NHS won’t tell you sex before 18 weeks, we just went for a private scan the best day, we couldn’t wait 😂

You can get private gender scans from 16 weeks but if it's an NHS scan, then they normally won't tell you the gender until the 20-week/anomaly scan. Though a few trusts don't tell you the gender at all, depending on the hospital policy (I think this is more common in Scotland). There's no harm in asking the sonographer, though; some might be willing to give it a go and others won't.

You can ask but most NHS sonographers will refuse before your anomaly scan.
We went private at 17 weeks to find out.

I asked for an estimate at the 12 week scan and got one. It was right as well! Just make it clear you know it isn't 100% and they might be happy to have a guess.

They normally tell you at the 20 weeks scan where I'm located. Although I'm asking for them to write it down so I can waddle/run to my partner and open it up togetherGrin
