So just been told today that my placenta isn't working properly and baby is going to be delivered by 32 weeks at the latest I'm now 30+6 and haven't stopped crying since being told so looking for some positive stories to maybe calm my anxiety xx

My youngest was born at 32 weeks and he's doing just great :-) No health problems. He's 18 months now.

Many. The vast majority of the 32 weekers who were born in our NICU (mine was born at 26 weeks) needed minimal help with breathing and were in the ‘feeder grower’ category. So they had an NG tube till they learned to suck and swallow and then they could go home.

Friends baby was born at 32 weeks and is a healthy, chunky 6 month old! In NICU for about 2 weeks and then home after that - with a feeding tube which was removed a few weeks later. The only real help they needed after being born was for jaundice, weight gain and maintaining their temperature. Friend managed to breastfeed too if that is something you are wanting to do. Good luck! X

I'm currently 32 weeks and my dad reminded me yesterday that I was born at 32 weeks. I had 2 weeks in NICU then home - no health problems or development issues (I'm no genius but studying towrds a PhD so not an underachiever academically either Hmm). That was back in the 80s as well.

Have a look at this for stats if you find that kind of thing reassuring. The survival rate at 31- 34 weeks is almost the same as full term - www.tommys.org/our-organisation/why-we-exist/premature-birth-statistics

I hope everything goes okay for you and the little one. I think if I went into labour now I'd be most scared of not having anything ready!

My DS was born at 30+0 due to placenta problems, he had a very rocky start but is now a healthy, happy, strong 5 year old who loves playing football with his brother, building factories with Lego, telling me everything he knows about the universe and drawing caravans. No one would know he was born ten weeks early.
Hang in there, it's a terrible time, but you will get through it. Pm me if you like.

My ds was born at 29+5 19 years ago, he weighed 2lbs. He needed very little help and came home six weeks later at 3lb 11oz (on Mother's Day). He is now 6ft 3" doing exceedingly well at university. He had a few problems with his ears with glue ear but that runs in my family.

My DD’s teacher had her 2lb 6oz baby girl back in March. They’ve just taken her home after 7 weeks in the SCBU. She’s doing great. Good luck to you x

Oh and my mum was born at 32 weeks 54 years ago! She’s absolutely fine.

Mummytea24 · 19/05/2020 20:26

My daughter was and she turns 7 at the end of this month. She was behind compared to other babies born at the same time and she is a bit behind at school but I am told they catch up by 11. No need to worry all will be fine.
