Did you tear second birth around?

Hi all

My due date is in a couple of days and am now getting a bit of anxiety over if I will tear again this time around.

I had a 3rd degree with first and lost 1.5 litres of blood, ended up anaemic and had a stay in hospital.

Been made high risk for possibly re tearing but been told a 1 in 6 chance and they have meds to give in case it happens against

What was others experiences please?

I didn’t tear with my first but had an episiotomy. I had my 2nd 2.5 years later and I didn’t tear at all. Good luck Flowers First labours have a habit of being complicated so hopefully things will go nice and smoothly for you this time round.

I had an episiotomy which tore pretty badly with my first (ventouse). Also lost a lot of blood and needed a couple of units in a transfusion.

Only had slight grazing the second time and no stitches. Was a bigger baby (8lb, so not huge), but was in a good position and no intervention needed.

I had an episiotomy with my first, I did tear with my second, only minor and required a few stitches. Healing has been easy, much better than my first.

I needed stitches with all of mine, but only the first was third degree tear with the same outcome as you, minus the hospital stay.

I don’t think it matters which birth you are on wether you will tear or not.
I tore 3rd degree with first (big baby) and then tore 4th degree with second baby (small baby but came out with hand by face)
You can’t really predict it’s not worth worrying about. Just try relax as best you can. If I could do it again I would stop pushing so hard and let me body do it.

The birth of my second was an absolute doddle (relatively speaking) compared to the first and I didn't tear. I had a wonderful midwife who told me to relax (I know) as much as humanly possible and do exactly as she said and DC was born very calmly.

I had an episiotomy and pph with my first as my placenta got stuck. Had meds this time round to stop that from happening. Had a second degree tear this time round which was much better than the episiotomy.

Thanks all :)

Episiotomy with first, second some tearing (2nd degree) which required some stitching but recovery really easy and painless.

Jj2431 · 17/05/2020 11:41

I had a 3rd degree with my first baby, had a second degree with second, was stitched up in the labour room after second and had no issues at all, went home an hour or two later from labour room.

No I didn't tear with second but I felt much more confident and in control about giving birth as I know I had a 4 year old to look so wanted to have a better birth.

Also helped that second was 7lb 11 vs 8lb 10 🤣
But it helped so much knowing what was going to happen and as corny as it sounds the midwife said to me, your body had done this before let it do what comes naturally and it worked.

I also stayed home until the last minute and was on my feet all day vs the first birth where I was in the hospital strapped up to machines monitoring the baby
