Keeping clothes/shoes/toys from 1st born and how to store?

I'm pregnant with dc2 (don't know what we're having, been to 20 week scan and didn't find out). I want to have a declutter of clothes and shoes but especially toys!

Do people generally keep stuff from the first and how are they stored? We've got some clothes in the loft in black bags.

With regard to toys, I have no idea what to keep, we have a bag of soft toys she's barely even looked at. From my experience they're unnecessary.

We got swamped with clothes when she was born and a lot of it she hasn't worn and seems too good to donate.

I didn’t keep DS clothes, DS2 was born at a different time of year, and all DS1 summer clothes would have been way to small. DS2 was much bigger at birth too so he went straight into 0-3 mths, rather than newborn.

I stored mine same way. In bags shoved in a cupboard. They're currentky being reused. Slightly different seasons born in Jan and March but I'm thinking most stuff will fit at the right times

Stored things we wanted to keep in vaccum bags and either donated or passed on to friends/family things we weren't bothered about. If you need to money you can always eBay/sell on Facebook otherwise I think it's nice to pass on.

We kept everything we liked in boxes in the loft in case we have another, we've agreed that we'll need to reorganize it before giving birth as currently things are grouped when we stopped using them, so like the breast pump is in with the 12 month clothing, the wraps also but we'd need them much sooner than that!

Everything is bagged or boxed up in the loft. I did sell a few bits in bundles - babygros I didn't really like etc. I try to sort out as I go but I'm sure there's a load of grubby stained vests up there because I was too emosh to chuck them out!

Ours are all in bags in the loft...also pregnant with dc2 but due date is opposite time of year so seasons will be totally off. Should really get it down and sort through it now as have lots of friends with new babies who could probably reuse some of it. Sleeping bags, sheets, blankets, muslins, toys and books will all definitely be reused though.

We kept everything from our first born , especially as we wanted our second child close in age so we hoped we would use it everything soon/ish after .

We had the space for it though with an attic and a garage , which was good because there is a lot of stuff !!!

We used large plastic containers, the type you can buy at B&Q and vacuum seal bags to compress the clothing . Most of the clothing , especially the newborn clothing , were gender neutral as we didn’t find out the sex. We even kept toys , the baby bath , baby blankets , left over nappies etc etc ! I wanted to make sure child number two cost as little as possible , at least for the first year or so .

I’m currently pregnant with baby number two and not finding out the sex either 😊

P.s baby number one born February. Baby number two due November so seasons kinda match up 😅

I'm expecting a girl who will arrive at a different time of year to her big brother. Had a big clear out this week and have kept everything that's vaguely unisex and might work weather-wise. She will be wearing a lot of blue babygros and vests but they'll be under her other outfits so I don't care!

A friend of mine has parents who live close to an orphanage in Africa. Every time she goes I give her bags and bags full of stuff that's still wearable. Some of it I'd love to keep but no room, and knowing how much it's going to appreciated really helps me to part with it. DS had some gorgeous stuff, all new, but I only kept clothes with sentimental value, such as pyjamas bought by a close friend who has since passed away.

I've been up in the loft sorting out today actually! It's a bigger job than I imagined!

We've found out that number 2 is also a girl so will be reusing a lot . I also found a few unopened sheets from mothercare for Moses basket so that was a lucky find!

I kept almost everything from the first 18 months from DD - couldn't bear to part with it and thought we'd have another sibling come along so they could be reused. That hasn't happened so I sent them to LoveKeepCreate and had a quilt made out of a lot of the clothes - I'm glad I did! Every time I went in the loft I felt bad for the babies who wouldn't be along to wear them but every time I go in DDs room I see it on the bed and each square of fabric Holds such lovely memories of her wearing them

I’ve pretty much kept everything in the loft in plastic boxes. DC2 due in autumn (DC1 was spring). I think I’ll just sort out as we go as some things like vests and leggings etc will generally be fine whatever the season - we don’t know the gender yet either!

Pygmyseahorse · 16/05/2020 21:44

I'm due in Dec and had a dd born in Dec so hoping this one can make use of at least a few things. Unfortunately most of the unisex ones have gone yellowed in storage despite being laundered before..
I've kept a lot of bits in big plastic tubs and organised in unisex/baby girl/toddler girl/toys/other like slings, milk bags etc

The only issue I have is dd won't let go of any of her baby soft toys.. She still plays with most of the animals and dolls and anytime we decluttered she goes to the bags and takes them out!

I have only kept good quality or barely worn clothing and sold or donated the rest. If we find out the sex I will sell the bits we don't need to clear space as unlikely we will have a 3rd

Pygmyseahorse · 16/05/2020 21:46

Dd is 3/will be 4 the month baby arrives providing all is well

I'm hoping I can palm off old baby stuffed toys to baby and she'll not mind because she's grown up but we will see
