Anyone's labour start like this?

I'm 37+1 weeks pregnant with my second and have had anemia, PGP, and sickness throughout. I've felt increasingly deflated and exhausted as a part of it all. So it's been a bit of a bummer, especially when trying to be chirpy mummy to DS1.

Anyway, over the past week, I've had one good day where I felt like a new person, full of energy, upbeat and no pains.

But apart from that one and very rare day, I've been the most exhausted and depsondant I've ever been. Can barely get out of bed, and want to eat everything in sight.

Today in particular, I've been having some incredibly painful and uncomfortable pains around my groin, pelvis and lower back. At first I thought they were muscular and were coming and going but now it's crippling to get up and down or walk small distances. I tried some yoga this evening and couldn't do many poses I've easily managed in the past and had to be pulled up by my husband as I lay there like a floppy whale.

The baby has also been moving a lot more and I can feel it engaging as my pelvis is heavy and I am frequently on the verge of p*ssing my giant maternity knickers.

Can anyone shed some light? Am I worrying about something that's totally normal at 37 weeks? Or has anyone's labour started this way?

So sorry for the long post. Here, have some Flowers for making it this far.

My pelvis and lower back hurt all 3rd trimester from second baby! The further down they went the more pain. Maybe baby is engaging now?

pianopants · 14/05/2020 22:40

I think it's definitely engaging as the pains are more intense now and I can feel my pubic bone has expanded and is rock hard, so little baby's head and neck seem to be down there.

It's just the sudden shift in pain and how I'm now so debilitated within the space of a day.

Maybe I'm just panicking and it's normal. But never experienced anything like this with my first (I was induced).

@bubdee did the pain result in you shuffling instead of walking - a wee bit like you'd had an accident or were trying to hold in a poo? Blush

I've lost all ability to walk properly.

Hi Piano pants
Sounds to me like your labour has started. Please contact your midwife/maternity unit.

bubdee · 14/05/2020 23:05

Yes lost all normal walking ability!!! Really bad pain to the point I thought something was wrong but the midwife said it's just because it's my second and it gets worse with each subsequent child, not having a third to find that out for myself.

Even after all that still had to endure it past due date as DS was a whole week late. Labour was much quicker this time though hope that makes you feel better about having the pains!

pianopants · 14/05/2020 23:09

Hi @Maverick66 and thanks for replying. Did this happen to you?

Two of my labours started slowly and the third I was induced but what you are describing sounds like early labour and I would be seeking professional advice.

pianopants · 15/05/2020 00:01

Thanks @Maverick66.

Have called and they've advised that if it was labour, which they're not sure they it is or just a bad flare up of PGP, then to get some rest as I'm already in bed. And see how I feel in the morning...

Does anyone know if water births are still going ahead?

Good luck and look forward to hearing if your new arrival 🍼😊

pianopants · 15/05/2020 07:21

Thanks! Am calling again this morning as I'm in crippling pain, struggling to get out of bed/walk and was in agony down there when I sneezed!

Good luck @pianopants!

pianopants · 15/05/2020 10:41

Thanks for your well wishes everyone 😊

I'm still really struggling, but midwife said that as it doesn't sound like labour pains, to stay at home and see how I go.

Thing is, I'm high-risk consultant lead and am scheduled for a c section on 29th due to previous complications, but if I go naturally before then, I'm happy to try for a vaginal birth.

I was induced first time round so all these feelings are pretty new (and sore!).

We shall see but I'll keep you updated 😊

Hi @pianopants

what does midwife think it is? You seem to be in a lot of discomfort.

pianopants · 15/05/2020 11:09

@Maverick66 she said it was hard to assess and that it sounded like muscular pain and not labour because I wasn't having contractions or anything coming away.

She advised to phone the physio but also said I wouldn't be able to get an appointment but could try for some advice...

She did mention about three times that it's best to stay at home unless I absolutely have to go in because of the current situation.

So I'm going to keep a very close eye.

Hi @pianopants
Are you feeling any better?

pianopants · 15/05/2020 14:54

Hello @Maverick66, thank you for checking in. Not really but am resting as much as I can. Cramping has died after a long nap down and most pain is now centred around my pelvis. I've managed to get an emergency physio appointment but not until next week now.

It does sound like PGP, have you got a gym ball you can sit on and rotate your hips? Also laying with a pillow between your knees can help with the pain. X

Maverick66 · 15/05/2020 16:13

@pianopants BrewCakeThanks

lauryloo · 15/05/2020 16:17

I was in pain like this the day before I went into labour.

Hope it eases for you soon

crazychemist · 15/05/2020 16:53

Is there a pattern to the pain? Could it be Brixton Hicks? I had those from 36 weeks, didn’t go into labour until 38 weeks.

pianopants · 15/05/2020 18:30

Thankfully the cramps have subsided for now. But the pelvic pressure is immense. I get that it's likely PGP but just wasn't prepared for it to come on this hard and fast Shock

Just got the gym ball blown up and it's such a relief.
