22 weeks - no movement for 3 days

Hi ladies,

I am posting for a friend (she asked me to)

She is 22 weeks and hasn’t felt baby move for 2 maybe 3 days. I have advised her to contact maternity unit. Should she contact her midwife who she is due to see at her next appointment or the maternity triage?

She doesn’t want to as she said she is too early for them to be able to do anything.

Any advise or experience welcome please.

It’s no too early, the hospital will see you from 17 weeks. Call triage and get it checked they never mind and it’s important

PinkJam · 14/05/2020 17:04

Thank you - I will tell her to call Triage. She’s worried they’re going to say she’s being silly and I wanted to be able to tell her triage or midwife and tbh I wasn’t sure which. Thank you.

Ring triage. It's better to be safe than sorry!
Baby is probably kicking elsewhere but she needs the peace of mind. Hope everything goes well!

It’s quite normal for movements not to be felt regularly this early and she’s right that there’s not really anything much that can be done. However it’s probably worth a telephone conversation with her midwife just to be safe.

BeyOnceBeyTwice · 14/05/2020 17:14

I was definitely in assessment unit earlier than 22 weeks because of reduced movement (and that's because the midwife on the phone told me to go in). She should call straight away

PinkJam · 14/05/2020 17:41

Thank you’re everyone that has replied. I’ve sent her this and she is going to ring Triage now. Not sure if it will be tomorrow they see her though with it being after 5.

Hospital triage is open 24 hours a day so shouldn't be a problem that its after 5pm

TudorOrSeymour · 14/05/2020 18:40

My local hospital won't see you for reduced movement before 24 weeks.

sel2223 · 14/05/2020 19:03

I would just give triage a quick ring to run it by them....better to be safe than sorry.

I'm sure it's fine though. 22 weeks is still very early....I didn't feel movements at all until I was over 22 weeks and they were intermittent for ages. It's probably just the position of baby or her placenta.

stairgates · 14/05/2020 21:36

I think if tou drink something high sugar like pure orange juice then that helps baby have a wiggle. Hope everything is ok x

PinkJam · 14/05/2020 23:26

Just spoken to my friend. She rang the hospital triage and they told her to come straight in. So thank you to everyone for the guidance, it’s really appreciated and helped to convince her that she wasn’t overreacting. She was there for 2 hours waiting as there were a lot of ladies there tonight. But she has been reassured and they said she has an anterior placenta which could be an explanation for the reduced movements. Thank you again everyone Smile

@PinkJam pleased your friend and her baby were both ok. The anterior placenta explains a lot, it cushions a lot of the baby's movements so can be a bit of a nightmare tbh.

BabyNoBaby · 15/05/2020 11:39

The trouble with reduced movement before a certain gestation is that they can't put the straps around you until around 26/28 weeks earliest to monitor

PinkJam · 15/05/2020 11:57

@sel2223 Thank you, me too Smile Felt awful not being able to support her in person, so wanted to do as much as I could from afar. She has always been there for me during my pregnancies.

@BabyNoBaby I don't know if they used the straps or not, but she said they listened in and my friend could hear the heartbeat too? I will ask her later.
