What did people wear in hospital for birth and time on ward after? Baby due 11 July so it's going to be hot. I know what to take for baby, but would welcome any advice on what clothes to take for me to wear

I took some nighties that unbuttoned at the front (as I was planning to breastfeed). Then some loose pj bottoms, and other similar cotton trousers, plus a few vest tops. I started labour in a maternity dress, and ended up in a gown.

I took a T-shirt style nightie for birth and a clean one for afterwards when I'd had a shower. Both were black so they they wouldn't show up blood stains. I also took a lightweight dressing gown and flip flops then I didn't have to go in the shower barefoot! For coming home, I packed joggers and a T-shirt.

I gave birth in the winter last year but my hospital is a million degrees 🥵

I started labour in maternity leggings and a sweater dress . I was boiling . I switched to a bikini for my water birth , ended up back on the bed naked and gave birth that way .

After I wore a T-shirt and pj bottoms . I had some nightgowns too .

Seriously though , why are hospitals so hot !? I was sweating my entire stay !

Just bought in a bunch of PJs. Should have bought thinner ones though because they keep the ward ridiculously hot. I took a loose shirt and sweatpants to go home in.

Reccomend both nighties and pjs with bottoms for after. And a handheld fan if you can. Hate those hot wards!

I literally have just bought a 2 pack of TU t shirt nighties from argos (I bought size 18s I was a 12 before pregnancy) for £8 to give birth in and wear after (although they aren't button front) I'm due to give birth in 9 days Confused just picked them up today they are cotton (and a bit better quality than I expected at £4 a pop) so should be breathable and they fit over my considerable bump so happy enough (not very sexy though lol)

On top of that I've packed some flip flops, a vest, PJ bottoms, maternity bra, a bikini (which looks ridiculous on me but its a string triangle one and is the only one that I can loosen up to fit lol) also some baggy elasticated bottoms, a maternity top and a lightweight dressing gown. And I'll have whatever I wear to hospital (probably a maternity dress, cardy and leggings)

I'm a FTM so winging it a bit! Grin

Button down nightgown once they removed me from my surgical gown so I could breastfeed easily and loose fitting pyjamas to get changed into. I had a dressing gown with DC1 but never wore it, I’m not really a dressing gown wearer and hospitals are roasting. Leggings and an oversized shirt to go home in.

Maybelatte · 14/05/2020 20:50

Took my Birkenstock’s rather than slippers, I’m also not really into slippers.

I wore either PJ’s or leggings and a long t-shirt. It is quite warm on the ward but I packed a cardigan too to cover up a bit for going to the bathroom or when people visited.

Also would recommend packing flip flops just in case because my feet were badly swollen and couldn’t wear anything else for weeks.

I was in 3 days after csection and took a nightie, v big pj's set, yoga trousers, nursing tops and a wrapover cardigan and slip on flats. It was Dec but so hot

Def going to take probably the same things this time they worked fine

Crabbo · 15/05/2020 00:06

Everything in dark colours. Both times I planned carefully what to pack and take and both times I’ve just ended up wearing my husbands joggers and hoodie instead!

I used my dressing gown as a blanket last time, I can't stand the scratchy thin sheets they have on hospital beds, this was October time and my dressing gown was fluffy and warm...

I've packed mostly what has been mentioned but made sure I've got plenty of knickers this time and a nursing bra.

Didn't even think to get a nursing bra last time, flopping my boob out over the top wasn't the most comfortable especially when they were so engorged! With an audience. I also didnt consider how important dark pj bottoms were last time.

I've got some of those maternity pants. While they don't look the most comfortable, they seem convenient enough to dispose of and I won't have to take home a bag of dirty knickers... Will see how I get on with those :)

Most likely wear my maternity leggings home as I'm having a C section so they should be comfy enough, leggings seem to be the only thing I can stand wearing this pregnancy.

I took two dark long nighties, 1 to wear giving birth and then I changed to a clean one after I'd showered. I also had a tankini for the birth poo. For after I had black pyjamas. And for the next day black tracksuit bottoms and black t shirt. For underwear black full briefs and soft black bras.

I knew I wouldn't be breastfeeding so didn't need to worry about clothes suitable for that.

Gerdticker · 03/06/2020 15:55

I hate slippers, so had slipper socks - with grips on the bottom - useful as I always get cold feet even in a warm hospital!

Lilybet1980 · 03/06/2020 15:59

It’s good to have a nightie for after (instead of it as well as PJ bottoms) in case you end up with a catheter.
