Different EDD to midwife

From my LMP and how long my cycle lasts I worked out that I'm 6w2d today and due 5/01/2021 all due date calculators back that up too yet when speaking to my midwife to make a booking appointment she says I'm 6w6d today and due new years day. How can all the due date calculators even an NHS one say the same yet she puts me 4 days ahead 🤔🤷

You will get another at the 12 week scan. Mine measured up more with that.

Lola871 · 14/05/2020 10:33

They don't take your cycle length into account, they just count from LMP. They knows the dating scan will give a more accurate date anyway so it doesn't really matter at this stage.

BeMorePacific · 14/05/2020 10:35

I wouldn’t worry about your EDD before your dating scan.
But to be honest as someone who went 10 days over, I wouldn’t be too concerned about your EDD even once it’s set.
Congratulations on your pregnancy x

cultkid · 14/05/2020 10:36

It's only 4 days difference don't worry
They don't usually come on due date xx

toomuchteaandcake · 14/05/2020 10:52

I've had 4 different EDDs! At my 12 week scan the doctor even wrote down two different dates in different parts of the form, so now the hospital have me as one date and my midwife the next day 🤦‍♀️

NannyPear · 14/05/2020 10:57

toomuch this happened to me! Verbally told me my new EDD at the scan, then wrote it down on two forms different. The form that was then referred to by midwives going forward was always the wrong blinkin date and it really annoyed me. 1 day difference but it made me twitch. Of course, didn't matter in the slightest!

Maidmummy · 14/05/2020 11:15

Midwife did ask my cycle length and I told her it's every 32 days, never happened in my 3 previous pregnancies hers always matched with mine so I have no idea why she's got a different date, just going to wait now until my dating scan x

What is your LMP date? Count 9 months and 1 week from that and you’ll have your EDD. Don’t consider cycle length. It’s not taken into account. LMP is.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 14/05/2020 11:18

Remember it’s an estimated due date. You could go weeks either side of it.

GrouchyKiwi · 14/05/2020 11:21

My dating scans gave me dates two days earlier with all my babies. All three were born on the EDD I got from my LMP.

GaaaaarlicBread · 14/05/2020 11:24

I had an early scan before seeing my midwife where I worked out my due date was 29th August 2020 going by my LMP and ovulation day, the scan showed my due date to be 1st September but baby was obviously teenie tiny at my scan as I was 7 weeks so she was a little dot , midwife said she will go by my worked out date until 12 week scan. My 12 week scan dated my due date to be 30th August . I’ve had a few private scans since (Gender reveal and one reassurance one) and they measure me to be due 29th August same as what I worked out . I am now 24+5 weeks pregnant and baby girl is measuring to arrive 30th August at my NHS apts so I think it really varies but generally they make their date after the 12 week scan and they stick with it x

sel2223 · 14/05/2020 12:26

As others have said, they just go by LMP at the initial booking in appointment and this is just based on the average woman having a 28 day cycle and ovulating on day 14. It's just a starting point to give them an estimate and not meant to be exact.

They only go by this rough guide until the dating scan which then gives you an official EDD. It's nearly always a few days different one way or the other and not something to worry about.
Bearing in mind you're classed as 'term' from 37-42 weeks, even your official EDD is just a guide.

I’m concerned about the same thing. I was put a week back at my 12 weeks scan. I argued I’d had the same cycle for the past 27 years and that all of my children are born on the same day of different months, except 1, his edd was changed at my 14 week scan, at the time I didn’t think much of it but he was born with meconium aspiration, I didn’t meet him for 18hrs while they stabilised him and transferred him to a different hospital to be in NICU, I was told to expect the worse. Reading his notes after birth suggest that he was up to 3 weeks late. (His date of birth compared with the previous 3 children would have made him 19 days over). He did survive and is a healthy 6 year old but I’m so scared about my dates, My midwife is supportive with a c section at 37/38 weeks but the consultant doesn’t see it as a problem to do it at 39 weeks. I now find edd calculates by scans terrifying. 😢

Superscientist · 14/05/2020 16:27

My midwife told me the LMP is right till you have a scan, then the scan EDD is right until you get to the end when baby has its own idea.

user1487755366 · 14/05/2020 16:30

My midwife's dates were the same. Put me about 4 days different to the dates on my app and the nhs site. I went for an early scan this week and i'm measuring closer to the dates she estimated. I'm told that the dates at the 12 week scan is the important one and your official due date so nothing to worry about.

toomuchteaandcake · 14/05/2020 17:05

@NannyPear haha yep I was at the point where I was just like right tell me what is the hospital official date, that's what I'm going with. It ended up being the 'middle' date of my range anyway so it's probably the best guess

Darkstar4855 · 14/05/2020 17:14

They calculate everyone as a 28 day cycle for ease. It’s only temporary until your dating scan, then they go by that.
