29 weeks - movements still feel indistinct

Hi all, just hoping for some insight/to hear others experiences.

I'm 29 weeks with my first. Placenta is at the back and I'm not particularly overweight (upper end of normal BMI pre pregnancy). I can feel baby moving (at least I think I can) but 95% of the time it's still the bubbly, almost like wind feeling, rather than what I would call a definite kick. Is this normal??

I spoke to the consultant about it at a recent appointment but it didn't really help as it's so subjective.. I called the maternity helpline today and am just waiting on a call back from a midwife now. I will go in if they tell me to, obviously but I really don't know if I'm worrying over nothing and obviously don't want to risk going to hospital and potentially exposing myself to the virus if there's no need Confused

Any advice appreciated..

I don't have the answer unfortunately but am in a similar situation. I can feel movement but haven't felt anything I would call a kick. Same as you in terms of placenta and weight. Hope your ok and let us know how you get on with the midwife x

Thanks @Daisysandviolets, it's confusing isn't it?! I hope you're ok too. They say not to count the kicks but just "get used to what's normal for you" - which suggests we're worrying over nothing, but then everything I read says "if you're at all worried about movements get it checked out" Confused

I called the helpline at 10 and am still waiting on a call back so will let you know how it goes..

I know they must be busy but that's really bad. Maybe chase them up if you haven't heard by three. Like you said the advice kind of contradicts! X

I'm 29 weeks Saturday. Placenta is at the back.
My kicks are very strong. She's been head down for weeks tho. Two days ago she had a spin around and is now breech. The kicks are very very different, I feel like Iv gone back 8 weeks to the tickles! I phoned as was very concerned due to not feeling her as I normally do. I was monitored and all was fine thankfully but I do think the reason for the kicks not being as they normally are is because she's span around.
I feel movements outweighs the risk of covid and wouldn't hesitate to phone as you can be very careful in hospitals with hand washing. Midwife's are dressed in full PPE to x

Thank you @clo1992 that is really interesting to hear! It would make sense as most of the movements I feel are low down - obviously would much rather have this properly confirmed though!

@Daisysandviolets yes, it's really annoying! We don't have a car and the hospital is an hour's walk away so I was really hoping that if I had to go in I could do it in the morning and take the day to walk (slowly!) there and back. If I went now I'd prob have to get public transport back which isn't ideal Hmm

The baby is definitely moving so I think I'll leave it till tomorrow morning and hope they pick up then..

I definitely think it’s positional . I’m 24+5 with my first and have anterior placenta and I’ve been really lucky to actual feel proper kicks as she was lying in a way that I could feel. But this past week she’s moved round I think and now I’m back to feeling bubbles again! So you’re definitely not alone x

clo1992 · 14/05/2020 15:55

@FerneGreene did you midwife not feel baby at 28 weeks and tell you the position?
I think yours may definitely be breech if there low down. And honestly they feel so different. Hopefully it that's the case and it will ease your mind x

FerneGreene · 14/05/2020 16:02

@clo1992 I saw her at 26 weeks and she measured the bump but didn't say anything about position.. I didn't know they did that. Won't see her again till 34 weeks then will have a positioning scan at 36 weeks.

I feel better now people are saying position can affect how movements feel (thanks @GaaaaarlicBread) but will still call tomorrow just to be sure.

My midwife always feels baby and tells me her position. I don't no if that's a done thing or not. 🙈

Yup unfortunately they spin around a lot just to scare us I'm sure.
Definitely good to get checked tho if your worried :) x

Just to update, I eventually managed to get through and the midwife said that so long as the pattern hasn't changed its fine, and it doesn't matter if the movements are strong or weak so long as they are as frequent as before. She didn't mention anything about position but I guess without seeing me she can't really speculate. I'm going to monitor extra carefully so 🤞.

That’s good to hear and reassurance for those of us who have experienced the same xx

Daisysandviolets · 15/05/2020 13:34

@FerneGreene glad to hear they got back to you and hope your feeling a bit better! I still haven’t felt anything I would describe as a kick but am feeling flutterings and movements so let us know how you progress Flowers
