I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

JadeBA2 Welcome. I am sorry you didn't find us last time. I suffered years ago but am Mother Hen on these threads these days. You have already had great adice from Herewegoagainx4 and others. Hopefully it is a hormonal surge. As you are a veteran, and of several hospital admisisons, you don't need my 'have you got kesotix' as while not the best test of dehydration hospitals do take them seriously' and 'an anti acid can make a big difference' and 'Do you find full sugar flat coke, ice lollies and the juice of tinned fruit any good'.
Sorry, when did you say you improved last time? Everyone is very supportive on here, even if it is a difficult time to have a baby, let alone have Hyperemesis.
Waves to christmasbox *KatieFTM' and everyone.. . At the moment the fresh weather is a lot more bearable.

Hi everyone,
Still following the thread. How are those of you cutting down on meds getting on? I was taking cyclizine 3 times a day and the odd ondansetron in between if I still felt sick. The past few weeks the cyclizine on its own has been enough and most days I don't feel the need to have one during the day. I'm still taking 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. I haven't physically been sick for a few weeks now but I still feel very nauseous in the mornings and it lasts until after lunch. I'm hoping to cut down to 1 cyclizine a day but just worried incase things get worse. I think I'll have to try it at the weekend when I don't have to worry about work if I do end up feeling sick.

Snowwhite2020 · 02/07/2020 22:13

Hi @Niffler2019 it sounds like we’re in a similar position! Your nausea pattern sounds similar to mine. I’ve not been sick today and have slept a bit more and feeling a bit brighter so hopefully that’s me out of that funny week long string of bad days but who knows... definitely worse when tired/ stressed etc.

I’ve also been diagnosed with hypotension. Not sure if anyone else has this/ had this but it’s making me very light headed and I have felt faint quite a few times this week. On the plus side, I have not felt the baby move- feels like little bubbles :)

@LucindaE yes you’ll need to save a blue and a pink ribbon for me at the castle- I can’t wait to get there! We have a few names but nothing definite yet.

Waves to everyone xx

Snowwhite2020 · 02/07/2020 22:14

I have NOW felt the baby move. Sorry, typo!

Seeker2020 · 03/07/2020 08:32

It's so so comforting reading all these updates. I'm sending so much love to all you ladies.

I'm a little worried at the moment. I seem to have had a couple of ok days nausea and sickness wise- I've not had to take a tablet this morning. Should I be worried about the improvement?

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 03/07/2020 15:29

snowwhite I had my scan... aaaand... it's a third girl! So reduces sickness this time is not related to gender. I'm very surprised! I was a lot more sick for a lot longer with both the other two. But did get to start meds much earlier this time, so perhaps that's it? Who knows.

seeker I have had similar days and then worried myself silly. Only to be very sick again... it's such a shame that even when we feel a bit brighter we can't enjoy it.

Waving to you all, and hoping for better days. Xx

Herewegoagainx4 · 03/07/2020 18:23

Struggling today. The end seems unmanageably far away. Thankful it's the weekend tho and DH isn't working this one Smile

JadeBA2 · 03/07/2020 19:14

Thanks for the welcome @LucindaE - so helpful to read others experiences, I've found HG can feel isolating at times.

@Herewegoagainx4 - I didn't know about the hormone surge so that definitely gives me hope this is just temporary! First time round the vomiting stopped as soon as I went onto the medication, the only time I would get it is when I tried to lower the dosage too soon, I was still nauseous but don't recall it being as bad as I have now! I just assumed it would be the same again this time around.
I have my scan booked a week on Monday, anxious to check everything is OK and so lucky the hospital have changed the rules to allow partners along as of next week.
My daughter is 2 in a few weeks, she's been wondering where I am when I've spent all day in bed, feel terrible not being able to spend time with her but I do have my husband working from home and able to help a lot.
Sorry to hear you are struggling. Going from your username is this your 4th!? If so, have you had sickness with all? If yes you must be superhuman to do that! I always said I wanted 4 but after this I have said never again!

@seeker2020 - I remember the same first time around, I would wish to feel better then if I had days when I felt completely fine I would panic there was a problem - seems we can't win!

X

LucindaE · 03/07/2020 19:55

Seeker2020 A lot of sufferers have a couple of good days, which they can't enjoy due to anxieties. Try not to fret (easy for me to say).
SnowWhite2020 I am glad today is a bit better.
Nifler2019 I am so glad that you are lot better, too.
IAmSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley Congratulations on a girl. It is resassurng for others that you are suffering less in this third pregnancy, and that early treatment may have been a factor.
JadeBA2 DD is so young that she will forget this time of comparative neglect. Wishing you all luck for the scan; you are unlikely to need it.
Herewegoagainx4 Cheering you on.
Waves to all...

@IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley that’s great news! Congratulations! Well I guess my mum had the same experience in that Hg didn’t follow gender for her either. Maybe it’s all just a lottery....

Lovely news for you xx

littledice · 04/07/2020 09:08

Hi @Niffler2019 I am on 3 promethazine and tried yesterday to cut out one dose - did not go well! Had 2 bad vomitting fits (after being 1 week vomit free) so I guess the meds are still doing their thing and today I'm upping the dose again. I'll try again in a week. How far along are you? Good luck with trying to reduce the cyclizine xx

Niffler2019 · 04/07/2020 11:31

Hi @Snowwhite2020 how many weeks are you now? I'm 21 weeks and touch wood seem to be getting better each week. Just hope it doesn't return in the 3rd trimester!

Niffler2019 · 04/07/2020 11:40

Hi @littledice I was 21 weeks yesterday, how far along are you? Can't believe I'm past the half way point! In the earlier weeks I honestly thought I couldn't make it this far.
One bit of advice I would offer to everyone still suffering is try not to think "I've got x weeks left". It really got me down thinking I had 30+ weeks of potential sickness and feeling dreadful and it felt impossible. Just try to take it one day at a time.

Snowwhite2020 · 04/07/2020 11:51

Hi @Niffler2019 I’m 19 and a bit now. Had a bad week last week but all in so much better than the first 1-16 weeks. Still on the meds but eating much more normally now (still some strong aversions) and generally sleeping better. It’s been a bit of a rough old ride! Feeing the baby move now which is nice. Glad you are also feeling a bit better.

Yes, midwife warned me about it returning. At least if It does, well be near the end with @LucindaE’s pink castle in sight! Ready to go home with our babies and our sickness either gone or very much on the way out! Xx

littledice · 04/07/2020 13:12

I'm only 15.5 weeks so judging by most people's experience I probably just need to accept that I'll be on meds for a few weeks longer. 21 weeks is an amazing achievement @Niffler2019 - half way!

@Snowwhite2020 feeling baby move must be amazing, hopefully makes it all start to feel worth it Smile

Thinking of everyone suffering today xx

Snowwhite2020 · 04/07/2020 13:52

Thanks for your lovely message @littledice I do hope things get better for you too.

Wanted to say I’m thinking of you @Pygmyseahorse and sending you love. I do hope if you went into hospital that it has helped to provide some relief. No need to reply- just wanted you to know xxx

LucindaE · 04/07/2020 19:08

littledice That is disappointing, but maybe you will be able to try and reduce the meds again later.
SnowWhite2020 Congratulations on movements. That is the best sort of encouragement. I'll join you in wishing Pygmyseahorse all the best, and hoping if she had to be admitted it helped.
Niffler2020 You are right: the motto 'One day at a time' is invaluable.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Hope everyone is ok today. Wind was howling through the night last night here so didn’t get much sleep... ergo sick day today! Looking forward to crashing into my bed soon.

Hope others have fared better xx

LucindaE · 05/07/2020 20:39

SnowWhite2020 I hope you sleep better tonight. The wind is really wild as we are high above town here. Rather a disappointing turn out for the clapping earlier, maybe due to the wind. I made a hideous din with a enamel baking dish and a wooden spoon, as before. Wink

Hi all hope you don't mind me joining, I have HG and I have tried cyclizine but I'm now on new meds (can't remember the long name) but started them yesterday 25mg at night for now and a review with gp after 48 hours.

Had a dreadful day yesterday and for past 5-6 weeks ( currently 11+3 due 21st Jan with my dating scan on Thursday) first baby (2x previous early mc) but today I have felt far better and actually worried that the vomiting has stopped.

Seeker2020 · 06/07/2020 09:31

Hi @angelascott- Welcome. I'm on the Jan 21 group with you. So sorry you've been struck with HG but this group really is fabulous for helping navigate it.

I'm wishing you relief as soon as possible. I'm at 14 weeks and still feeling nauseous pretty much. all. day. long. Are you managing to eat and drink and keep things down? x

angelascott · 06/07/2020 09:50

@Seeker2020, hello I started new meds on Saturday and had a fantastic day yesterday but today I feel dreadful and thought that maybe I would still be able to keep my food down and just feel nauseous but nope it's all just come back up.

I am drinking and I do manage bits throughout the day but not much at all. Got a review with gp tomorrow and my 12 week scan on Thursday.

How r u? Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 06/07/2020 10:03

@Seeker2020 @angelascott welcome and sorry that you are feeling so Unwell. Fingers crossed the meds help and that time may also improve or change the symptoms a bit. Have you tried an anti acid? Many recommend that on top of anti emetics xx

littledice · 06/07/2020 10:04

Sorry you're having a hard time @angelascott - do you know what the meds are? 25mg once at night sounds like a very low dose of whatever it is, might be a case of increasing that? I also found that with all the meds I tried the first dose worked the best and after that the efficacy was slightly less (or in the case of cyclizine it stopped working completely after first dose) - I had best luck with promethazine 3 times a day and there's good evidence for both that and ondansetron but I recommend keep trying til you find something that works. Good luck xx
