I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@pygmyseahorse it’s good you’re going into hospital to discuss further testing so soon. I know of multiple people who have had bloods which have come back as high risk and then upon further testing the babies have not had downs. I’m sure you just want to know either way so that you can move forward.

All my love to you as always and please speak on here if it helps you. We are all here for you always xx

Seeker2020 · 08/06/2020 17:12

Sending you love @pygmyseahorse. My prayers are with you xxx

Snowwhite2020 · 08/06/2020 17:40

In other news I just threw up and my nose started bleeding. That’s new!

Clarkel1 · 08/06/2020 18:30

@Pygmyseahorse hope your ok, when I was expecting my DD my risk came back as high also I was out of my mind with worry, they sent us for in depth scans etc and she was fine, it's easier said than done try not to worry 😞 what are your risk factors? Numbers etc? I'm now terrified again that same wil happen this time round also but I'll just have to wait and see. X

Also can anyone tell me if you are experiencing this awful acidy knawing feeling in stomach, it's keeping me awake I can't sleep for it it's like awful hunger pains, worried I have h pylori bacteria which I've had before or an ulcer ... don't know how to take it away it's making me actually cry ... doctor gave me omeprazole I'm taking rennies etc nothing working apart from 5 mins relief if I'm full up. Can anyone recommended any natural remedies 😞

Snowwhite2020 · 08/06/2020 18:36

@Clarkel1 I know that feeling... that has been part of my sickness nausea cycle and associate symptoms. I had it today in fact and then acid reflux and then vomiting. Often comes in that order for me though the sore stomach pains can go on and on- especially in first 14 weeks for me it was near constant. So grim.

Clarkel1 · 08/06/2020 18:50

@Snowwhite2020 is it like a knawing hunger feeling you have it is awful the sounds from my upper stomach are terrible like lava floating around in there keeps me awake at night because it's just there permanently the omeprazole isn't doing a thing either 😞

Seeker2020 · 08/06/2020 18:56

@snowwhite2020, @clarkel1....same for me. Spoke to a doctor today and the relaxed stomach muscles caused by all these lovely hormones we have swilling about can result in excess acid rising when it would usually be stopped by more rigid muscles. I've tried to eat something with protein before tucking up into bed today....someone suggested it might help. Apparently, the stomach needs something to work on, otherwise the acid will rise. Sad Really not enjoying this experience at all. Sending you all love xxx

Clarkel1 · 08/06/2020 19:01

@Seeker2020 I am eating like pitta breads crackers etc to help but it isn't it's really getting me down especially at night as I'm awake most of it with constant knawing hunger pains it's the worst I've ever felt. I can literally feel and hear it in there just total acid 😞

Snowwhite2020 · 08/06/2020 19:35

@Seeker2020 @Clarkel1 it’s horrific girls, it really is. I think in general eating a bit is supposed to help. I did go through a really bad phase where I ate very little as was so sick... it is no longer as bad as it was but I had a bad attack of it today. It was constant before but now I can have a bad hit of acid and nausea and end up being sick within minutes really. It’s so weird how sickness changes as the weeks have gone on- I’m still sick but in new and wonderful ways. It’s like when it rains in Britain- so many types of rain- you get wet in them all lol. Been sick so many different ways :/

LucindaE · 08/06/2020 19:48

HerewegoagainX4 Welcome. I am sorry that you feel ill alerady. You are very brave. Can you get a telephone prescription if they couldn't see you? As you are a veteran, you certainly don't need advice from me on 'do you find ice lollies, sips of flat full sugar coke and the juice of tinned fruit help' and 'do invest in some kesostix as while they may not be the best test of dehydration, hospitals do take them seriously' and 'pre emptive meds can help a lot' and 'a good anti acid can make a lot of difference'. Did your symptoms ease at any point in your other pregnancies? People are very supportive on here. I hope you avoid getting it this time, as some people do, after all.
Pygmyseahorse I am so sorry about that call from the hospital. It is a shock. We'll all be thinking of you. I don't know what figures they gave for Downs and other conditions, but the uncertainty is dreadful.
Clarkel1 and Seeker2020 I am sorry about that awful heartburn. If the doctor has you on Omprazole, that is generally thought a good anti acid. I don't know what the situation is with Ranitidine. They withdrew it temporarily, I think due to contamnination of a batch or some such, but i don't know if that is sorted out. I used to have the same thing and in desperation drink milk, but as that has an acidity it was only a temporary relief. I used to take lots of Gaviscon as the GP woudln't prescribe anything else, but it can make you feel really bloated.
SnowWhite2020 You have been a life saver on this thread. Flowers Star. I am glad things are a bit better.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

@Pygmyseahorse sorry to hear of this additional stress you are going through.
Hoping your appointment goes well today.
Sending love xxx

Pygmyseahorse · 09/06/2020 07:37

@KatieFTM thank you, I hope your scan goes well today and you are feeling as well as can be for it

@Clarkel1 thank you so much for sharing your experience with me, I really appreciate it
We are 1 in 33,nt measurement last week was 2.7 which worried me but within high end of normal and we stupidly thought oh I'm only 29 it's probably OK but no..
I'm not sure whether we will have the invasive tests and harmony expense is a lot to consider during this week and on one income but hopefully will get some information about diagnostic testing today which will help. If you don't mind me asking.. How did you find making that decision? Did it help to do it so you knew for sure?
Fingers crossed you don't have to go through that experience again x

@LucindaE thank you

@Snowwhite2020 thank you too, I'm sorry you've had a bad flare up and to all the other ladies too experiencing painful acid etc. I had it with dd but not much this time, I have no advice I'm afraid but keep going, one day at a time is another day closer to baby and not feeling like this

@Seeker2020 thank you x

I'm so sorry for anyone I've missed out

So, hospital at 11 and a nerve wracking morning
Sick as a dog, I've been much worse since last week and remembered it was exactly the same with dd.. 12 weeks on was worse than first trimester but we will see how things go. Everything tastes like I'm being poisoned even water, having weak Earl grey tea which is hit and miss but taking more than sips so that feels better at least
Dd sticking Dr toys and play food in my mouth to make me feel better is not helping so much! (she's 3 and a half nearly) bless her

Anyway ladies, I'm sorry this is long.
I hope you are as well as you can be and sending my love

Snowwhite2020 · 09/06/2020 08:18

Good luck today @Pygymyseahorse we’ll be thinking of you xxx

KatieFTM · 09/06/2020 08:41

@Pygmyseahorse thank you so much, so lovely that you remembered given everything on your mind already!
I had a really awful sleep and have been sick a few times already. I’m not very good with worry or excitement, so both combined lead to lots of nausea and sickness.
Will be thinking of you too xx

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 09/06/2020 09:12

Just popping on to wish Pygmyseahorse luck today. Hope the appointment goes well. X

Clarkel1 · 09/06/2020 09:16

@Pygmyseahorse I think we were 1 in 150 I'm sure, it was ten years ago , I was also 29 and thought aren't I too young to have these odds, I hadn't thought about it and now this time round it's all I think about 😞 we decided not to have the amniocentesis and opted for the in depth scan the offered we seen a consultant who was brilliant he went through ever measurement and afterwards pretty much assured us that we were not having a downs baby, but I still worried right until the end. This time round if my risk comes back him I think I would take the tests just so I knew ... but I won't know again till I'm in that situation 😞 I'm praying I don't have to go through it again. I'm sure today they will give you lots of info and rest your mind a little regarding the tests etc, try and stay positive there's every possibility it'll all be ok luv. Xxx

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 09/06/2020 09:17

Hi herewegoagainx4
I thought I was brave going for a 3rd HG pregnancy. But hats off to you! You are Wonderwoman! How old are your DC?
Mine are 3 and 4. Both girls. This pregnancy quite different from the previous ones so starting to wonder if it might be a boy? Who knows!

Anyway welcome to the thread, hope you are doing well.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 09/06/2020 10:15

So ladies! I did it!!! I reached the castle!!!! 🏰

My son Oscar Alexander was born on Saturday 6th June 😊

I had a very long labour, he was back to back and i had contractions every 5 minutes for 37 hours in total - I wasn't dilating and was stuck at 2cm and had to keep going home due to this. I had been discharged from triage at 02:30am as I was still 2cm, I rang them at 08:30am crying as I was in so much pain and begged them for pain relief. They told me to go back into triage at 09:15, checked me and I was 10cm!!! (FTM, that pressure in my bum that was causing me agony? Yeah that was my body pushing!!!) He was born at 09:42 with no interventions and everything went perfect.

The second that the my placenta left my body my hyperemesis DISAPPEARED!!!
It was like an off switch! I had some toast straight away and it was the best meal of my life, I could actually taste it!! (Hubby said it was awful dry cold toast 😂)

So a quick message to you all - JUST KEEP GOING! You'll have the days where you quite literally dont want to live, but you WILL get through them. Split your days up into 3 to make it easier to get through them! Hyperemesis makes it so hard to remember what we are doing it for - those precious little newborns who are waiting in the castle for us with open arms.

You can do it ladies, and I can guarantee you it is worth every single day of sickness. 9 months of sickness was worth being able to watch my baby grow up for the rest of his life!

And the relief you get afterwards is indescribable. Every person who has saw me has told me how amazing I look and how I'm 'glowing' ...I finally got the glow you guys 😂😂

Seeker2020 · 09/06/2020 10:25

@BeautyAndTheBump1- huge, HUGE congratulations! What wonderful news. Firstly on your new arival and secondly on the HG relief. You really are a trooper....37 hours!?!

I hope you are home and enjoying your new bundle of joy and are resting well. That first proper meal is going to be absolutely heavenly now that the HG has let up. Thank you for sharing with us and giving us all a jolt of hope.

xx

Snowwhite2020 · 09/06/2020 10:52
