I had a urine test today at midwife and she said it had high glucose in the urine so I might be diabetic waiting for my blood test on tuesday but preparing myself if I have it. What diet did you guys follow and was your pregnancy smooth?

I did.... there is a really good group on Facebook, think it’s just called gestational diabetes uk, they were super helpful, they literally know everything. They will be able to answer any questions you ever have! I followed a gi diet type thing and managed to stay off medication, was induced at 37 weeks due to worries she wasn’t growing well but growth scans aren’t the best and she had grown fine. Healthy baby... now healthy 4 year old. Its crap not being able to eat what you want but once the baby is born it’s all gone instantly and you can fill your face with whatever you like 🤗

Hi, I have GD, and found out at my 24 week GTT test I think (I'm now 38 weeks) if you do have it, I can highly recommend www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk web page and also the Facebook page is amazing for support and advice and recipes etc.- unfortunately the NHS advice on GD isn't great - they tend to give you Type 2 diabetes dietary advice (still having things like cereal, toast, porridge, OJ, which most GD women can't tolerate at all!) so if you do have it, check out the website instead and Facebook page, it will help massively. I was diet controlled for a few weeks and you have to take finger prick tests to check your glucose levels before you eat and after to see how certain things affect you (the hosp will give you a kit) - but I couldn't control my fasting levels so now stick to the GD diet, take 2 metformin at night and currently 18 units of insulin before bed - the tablets/insulin aren't a problem at all - the finger prick testing is a bit of a pain but you get used to it. Depending on how you manage to control it will depend on birth - if you're just diet controlled I believe you can wait until 40+6 before induction - if you're on meds they like to induce you early (from as early as 37-38 weeks) in case the placenta starts to fail. But even with my meds they're not inducing me until 39 weeks (next Wed eek!) Good luck and feel free to ask any questions :)
