Progesterone for early pregnancy?

After my 3rd miscarriage it was suggested I may need progesterone for ongoing pregnancies, just spoken to my GP who is confused as to why this would be prescribed and has said he needs to do some research into it....he said normally it comes from gynaecology but only if I am under them which I was waiting for a referral before all this coronavirus stuff and still haven't had it

Has anyone else had trouble getting GP to prescribe?

@Pinkpaintlover I bought wellsprings serenity progesterone cream

I also carried on using the cream to 16weeks, and then slowly weaned off of it over a few more weeks.. it may have done nothing but I figured it can't do any harm so may as well give it a go!

Afternoon ladies, just spoke to my doctor and the gynecologist has said its not something they do and don't advise at all, so I have no one else to turn to about getting this prescribed, thanks for all your answers

I basically just have to hope for the best 🤷‍♀️

@EllieJai44 I'm so sorry your GP won't give you a prescription. Have you tried the EPU? I had a real struggle getting Cyclogest last year after recurrent miscarriage but finally a registrar at the EPU relented - she said no at first and said there was no evidence it had an effect but I quoted the results of the PRISM trial at her (I'd had early bleeding with my miscarriages) and then started crying and begging. I'm pretty sure she only gave them to me to get rid of me but I don't care! I was 6 weeks at the time and I'd been spotting for a couple of days but within 48 hours it had stopped. My daughter is now 9 days old.

I hope everything works out for you this time. Flowers

@Serenity05 congratulations on the birth of your daughter! I have rung the EPU about an hour ago as they were the ones who referred me to the miscarriage clinic (that I've heard nothing about) and they do early scans, they are ringing me back tomorrow for a phone consult so I will be begging them!

@EllieJai44 really hope the EPU can help out! That’s where I got my progesterone and an meant to carry on til 16 weeks.
Alternatively you can book contact private practises and let them know what you are after and they can let you know if they provide progesterone. It will probably be expensive (not because of the cyclogest but the initial consultation). However, it’s definitely money I would pay for reassurance. Fingers crossed 🤞 Flowers

@EllieJai44 and anyone who might find this link worrying about progesterone. I am on progesterone pessaries now but I also think progesterone fuelling food can raise your levels.

While TTC I had my progesterone levels checked monthly and they varied from showing no ovulation to borderline with low progesterone levels (highest was 26). I then started seed cycling (pumpkin and sesame seeds every morning) and then adding other progesterone rich food such as spinach, broccoli and beans and my levels went up to 40. I don't know if it was the change in diet but I was not taking any creams or pessaries at the time. So definitely worth considering xxx

Scan today was all good thankfully! Now measuring a few days ahead with a strong heartbeat. I don't know if it's the progesterone making a difference this time or not, but I'm really glad I'm taking them. I hope your EPU can help you @EllieJai44

EllieJai44 · 15/05/2020 14:01

@MariaDingbat thats great news! Unfortunately they can't, they are doing no early scans at present time and they are now saying it was never suggested about progesterone and its an old treatment that no study shows any benefit to it, i quoted the studies suggested and they claimed they were wrong 🤦‍♀️

@LASandOtto what private clinic did you go to? Thanks.

LASandOtto · 13/04/2021 15:52

@Fingerscrossedthistime I was monitored by ARGC in London for my third pregnancy after my initial two miscarriages. I had started the process of tests there but got pregnant before we kick started the tests, so they were great and I ended up staying with them until I was 16 weeks and they scanned me weekly and I was also on a cocktail of medication, as a precaution. My daughter is now 6 months old and I'm glad I paid for their monitoring service, I felt very taken care of.

@LASandOtto thank you so much for replying. Congratulations on your daughter!
