Uppababy pushchairs

Hello!

I posted this on the Products>Pushchairs board but not sure there's much traffic there so posting here in case anyone has some insight!

I'm 28 weeks' pregnant and realising the odds of getting to a shop to actually look at a pushchair are quickly diminishing so ramping up online research. I keep coming across Uppababy as a brand which might suit our needs but wondered if anyone has either the Vista or the Cruz (or saw both in person before deciding on one) can detail any pros/cons?

  • I live in the suburbs and expect I'll mainly be using the pushchair on suburban walks - pavements, cafes, shops, parks (primarily with paths) but with some more bumpy routes in parks
  • We have a golf - I'm not a v confident driver so will probably use public transport more than not, but with husband we would drive and need to fit in boot etc
  • We are likely getting a maxi-cosi car seat with isofix base
  • Also looking at getting a sling we could then use for more 'off-road' routes and skip pushchair if baby was happy in one
  • Planning to have more children, and potentially with not a huge age gap, but has taken us a long time to get to this point of pregnancy so no guarantees with when that might happen
  • We have decent storage inside our home for pushchair without it being folded up if needs be
  • I'm 5ft6, husband around 6ft

Few friends who have had babies say lighter pushchairs better but hard to gauge without seeing in person!

Any advice v welcome on Vista/Cruz, or any other pushchairs I should consider alternatively.

Sounds like us when we had our first. We were driving a Golf. Got a maxicosi I can’t seat and base. And we had an Uppababy Vista.

The vista is the best pram/buggy we ever used. It’s that simple. It’s a great size, very well made, very robust and reliable. Everything about it is well-designed and thought through.

After having our first, we went on to have twins. So we got a different buggy for them. It was a bugaboo, and it just wasn’t a patch on the Uppababy.

I’d definitely go for the Vista.

Hi OP, I love my vista. I have a golf too and it fits in the boot fine if you pop off one wheel which is literally just pressing a button. We chose it based on a recommendation as I couldn't see the wood for the trees. It's lovely and sturdy. I believe it's also good if you choose to have a second baby too as you can adapt it. I didn't purchase a compatible car seat, which in hindsight may have been a good move but I have managed just fine. Congratulations xx

I was between an icandy orange and the uppababy vista and really rated the vista - from memory I think the vista seat was bigger than the Cruz, and I thought the vista handled better / had smoother turning etc. My husband is also tall and I’m a similar height to you, the Vista was a decent height for both of us and had a adjustable push bar to allow for height differential.

Rosabuddy · 13/05/2020 09:42

We got the vista, baby due in 6 weeks but delighted with our purchase even though we haven’t used it. The very sturdy, easy to fold, great turning circle, plenty of room in the basket part under the pram and has the option to add on an attachment for a second child to make it a double! My friend has it and has used it for over a year and loves it!! I have a golf too and it fits in the boot no problem! So easy to lift the pram/seat off in one click and as a bonus you can use the pram part for daytime naps (it’s safety approved)

I love my vista. I have a golf and it fits in my boot nicely. The wheels are big so goes over bumps. You can take the wheels off with a push to get through tighter spaces. It has added features I’ve not seen on other pushchairs like a sun shade. The basket is a great size too. I have a maxi cosi pebble plus car seat and it clips on the pushchair easily.

I have the cruz which I absolutely love, very sturdy for walks in the country and decent size basket. However, I am very petite so it definitely suits me better as it’s lighter. My friend has the vista who is tall and really rates it and it fits easily into her car. I personally find it too big (it wouldn’t fit through the door of my flat!) but my friend has had no issues. I inherited her bassinet and my daughter loves to sleep in it. Definitely recommend uppababy.

Foreverbaffled · 13/05/2020 10:01

Totally in love with our vista! It’s really robust and easy to handle. Quite heavy when loading into a car but fits into the boot of my Nissan micra (with one wheel off!) I’m pregnant with our second and going to get one of those buggy boards so DS can stand and ride along with the new baby in the vista bassinet.

Foreverbaffled · 13/05/2020 10:02

Oh and agree with poster above that if you’re smaller and petite then the Cruz might be a better option. My DH and I are both very tall and the vista has been the only pram/buggy which hasn’t caused back ache!

Hopefulin2020 · 13/05/2020 10:33

Thanks everyone! Very useful - my main concern re the Vista was the weight/that it was quite big but that doesn't seem to be a big detractor here? On the flip side it has the advantage of converting into a double over the Cruz if we were lucky enough to have a 2nd baby, and they were closer in age. Decisions, decisions!

I don’t find the vista heavy at all, in fact, the car seat I bought is heavier lol

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 13/05/2020 10:54

We have a Vista, bought it second hand and it's fab, absolutly love it!!

Selfsettling3 · 13/05/2020 10:58

I have a Cruz and a golf. I bought my Cruz 4 years ago. I went for the Cruz over the vista because it is lighter and I wasn’t planning a small gap. My gap between children ended up being 3 years which was longer than I planned. Cruz is longer than folded than the vista but it easily fits into my golf. When we were using the bassinet and frame we couldn’t fit the parcel shelf on as well but that was no problem

In retrospect I wish I had the vista for more off road and I don’t think the weight of it would have been a problem when I was nolonger pregnant with a big bump but then I had an EMCS with DD1 so lifting things was more difficult.

No pram is perfect.

IDontLikeMondays88 · 13/05/2020 11:40

The vista is a tonne weight though. I am in same position as you - live in the burbs, small car, will use public transport and have gone for something very small and light.

LexiM · 13/05/2020 18:17

Just joining this post to see replies as I’m interested in getting one. Would use it similar to you (minus public transport!) so far I’m yet to come across many people that had a Vista and didn’t like it.

My understanding is Cruz isn’t designed for as wider range of terrain as the Vista.

aneliese · 13/05/2020 21:53

I think the new Cruz v2 has better suspension? I'm also keen to get one that is light as possible without compromising stability so I'm leaning towards the Cruz over the Vista (also no plans to have another baby soon after this one).

RoseGoldEagle · 14/05/2020 00:08

I got the Cruz in 2016, after reading rave reviews, I mainly wanted something light and nippy, which it was, and I knew it wasn’t an all terrain pushchair, but I thought it’d cope across some grass, but it really struggled on anything other than roads/paths. Have never known anyone not like a vista though! I ended up buying a new one for baby 2 as couldn’t cope with struggling to push the Cruz on certain surfaces- went for an icandy orange which I adore (and is great as will convert to double which will be handy when number 3 arrives). So I actually wouldn’t recommend the Cruz, though I know it doesn’t pretend to be all terrain and others do love it!

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/05/2020 01:00

I have a Golf too and love my Vista. It is really light and nippy on walks and can handle a mix of terrain really well. The wheels remove and replace really easily so I just pop them off and put the frame and (collapsed) pram attachment on top. There was just enough room for the nappy bag. Since DS has started using a pushchair there’s even more room at the back as it lies almost flat.

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/05/2020 01:02

One thing - it stands up by itself when you fold it, so it can stay in the hall ready for use. The pram can also be used for overnight sleeping so it saved us from buying a travel cot. He can still sleep in it but is a bit squashed - and we’ll continue using it until 9 months.

Hopefulin2020 · 14/05/2020 07:48

Thanks all! All really useful.

Think we are leaning towards the Vista and sure there are niggles with any pram!

@aneliese the Cruz V2 for 2020 does seem to have changed its wheels to have better suspension - I've watched a few comparison videos online for it and so might make it a bit sturdier for more terrains. A bit heavier than old model but still lighter than the Vista.

I think the potential to convert the Vista into a double in future might be the decider for us, as cost of both Cruz v Vista works out pretty much the same and people generally seem pleased with Vista.

We are expecting our first very soon and need to get a carrycot/pushchair. We are stuck between the iCandy Peach, Oyster3 or the mamas&papas Ocarro. Anyone got any advice on these?
