I'm pretty sure I'm suffering with SPD/PGP this pregnancy. I think I had it mild and late on with others but nothing like this. Sleep is getting worse. I cant turn in bed without being in pain. Getting in and out is a nightmare. Cant split legs etc and towards end of day I struggle moving round and going up stairs etc.

Is anyone else the same? What treatment have they offered? Cant put my knickers on or trousers.
I dont know what help there is with the covid19 at present. I'm 31 weeks, due for csection around 39weeks. I've bought a support belt, but not finding a huge difference. I have 3 children at home so cant really do any strong pain relief till partner is home. I know with my 2and I had a fall and they just gave me strong meds to deal with pain till birth...

Also if anyone has had it, would you advise seeing a doctor or midwife ?

I’ve been suffering with SPD since around 16 weeks and I’m almost 34 weeks, it’s horrible I feel your pain.
Normally going to an osteopath or physio is recommended but obviously that can’t be done at the moment.
Things that have helped me:

  • sleeping on my side with a pillow between my legs
  • sitting down to do anything like putting on pants/trousers or anything that requires you to put all your weight on one leg
  • using a tennis ball up against a wall to massage my hips/glutes/lower back - seems to relieve some of the tense muscles that might by pulling your pelvis in the wrong direction
  • warm baths
  • paracetamol - although this rarely has a huge effect so I save it for the really bad flare ups
  • try not to sit for too long or walk for too long - ideally you potter around and alternate between the two.
  • being a mermaid 😂 I.e keeping legs together as much as possible at all times, rolling over in bed, getting in and out of the car etc.

As far as I’ve been told there is no real cure it’s just about managing it until baby is out.

A tip I got from my MW if you are struggling to get in/out the car (which I really am) is to put two Tesco bags on the seat, sit down bum first and then rotate yourself in with knees together!

The bags have no friction so it’s like a swivel seat! x

I had terrible pelvic pain/SPD in my first pregnancy - even ended up with extra scans due to the pain ! but got it under control with advice from physio, this pregnancy has been fine as I'm following all the same advice.

Basically you must always be symmetrical and supported, so this means:

  • no crossing your legs ever
  • no crossing your ankles
  • no tilting your pelvis (I sleep with 2 pillows between my legs)
  • not sitting at an angle, when watching tv etc I'm bolt upright with feet planted (symmetrically) on the ground
  • don't carry things wonky (tricky when I have a 15 month old!!)
  • pushing vacuum cleaner/ trolley is terrible thing to do
  • as previous posters say don't EVER stand on one foot - this means sitting for shoes, trousers, underwear etc (no shaving legs in shower either!)
  • don't spread your legs too wide
  • small cushion in small of back helps loads too

I've made it sound really miserable but it does work! Basically anything I do I ask myself if I am symmetrical and supported.

I really feel for you not getting to see physio - mine was terrible in first pregnancy and I'm so pleased I know what to do for this one.

Oh and one of the worst movements you can do is a swiping motion with one leg - I.e if there's a messy toy in your walkway you swipe it to one side with your leg to move it. Apparently that's particularly bad - and I believe them as when I do it subconsciously it does make my SPD hurt every time!

Same here it's so painful - I've found a birthing ball is helping - it's much more comfortable to sit on and get up from than a chair or sofa, and it's helping a bit with the pain as been told to keep moving/not sit still for too long so even if i'm sat watching TV or working at the computer I'm still sort of moving so not stiffening up too much - worth a try!
